Hi I have the chance to get a set of new original 17inch Hartge 3 piece Classic split rims. The wheels however are 8.5 inch wide with a 46mm offset. Realistically will I be able to get these to fit and what size spacers will I need bearing in mind I have the standard 16inch basket weaves which are 7.5 inch wide with ET27. Thanks. |

I'd say that that offset is to big , i looked at some wheels off a e36 they had a offset of 35mm , so i'd need a 15mm spacer and longer bolts , you've got a 46mm offset , you'll need at least a 20mm spacer and longer bolts , thats a lot of strain on those wheel bolts , if they fit at all .. -------------

Does look like a no goer which is shame. Some of the guys on s14.net have suggested the spacer would be too big.
Anyone got a set of 8X17 BMW style 5 split rim wheels they want to get rid of ?

It depends on how the spacers are made , on my rally car project I couldn't find any wheels I liked in BMW fitment , so bought some Subaru wheels , they have an offset of 45 , and a wrong pcd , so I made some 30mm thick spacers , drilled them on a 5 x 120mm pcd and used cap head bolts to bolt them to the hubs , then fitted wheels studs and pressed them in from behind on a 5 x 100mm pcd to fit the wheels too. If you want to run spacers it will be fine as long as they are a perfect fit and you use top quality bolts / studs / nuts. As long as you have locating rings on the spacers for the wheels to fit there is no strain on the wheel studs

Ian's solution is absolutlely right. If you don't want to make them yourself and don't need to change the PCD then H&R in Germany make just the thing. The H&R ones don't change from bolts to studs though. If you add the cost for the spacers, is it still a good deal? ------------- E61 520d, slow and buzzy but my wallet likes the mpg..... |

Umm So it could be done but Uwe has a valid point the wheels are 650 for the 4. Spacers bolts etc will add at least another 100 and then I need tyres on the top as well. Starts to become very expensive when I already have a mint set of 16inch basketweaves fitted with new tyres all round. I am having all my suspension replaced in just over a week with new eibach springs , shocks bushes, arb links, top mounts etc as well so should probably wait till this has been fitted. Will have to mull it over. Chris. ------------- |

I don’t think H&R do spacers for an E30 M3. I was looking to order a set from a local alloy wheel shop who are a HR dealer also but they says they only do them for E30 316 to 325 and E36/46 M3’s. |

H&R certainly do make and sell spacers that are right for E30 M3 even if they are not listed under that model. The E36/46 (not M3) ones have the correct pcd and centre bore. Check out page 8 and 9 of the following link from the H&R site http://www.hr-spezialfedern.de/katalog_download_en/BMW.pdf - http://www.hr-spezialfedern.de/katalog_download_en/BMW.pdf (to fing it from their homepage go products, download catalogue, BMW) Just choose the type and thickness under E36/E46 to get the correct part number. I have two sets, one 15mm for use with longer bolts/studs and one 20mm which bolt to the hub and then use original bolts - both sets are well engineered and work fine. Lancastrian, So is this def the part number for a set of 15mm (30mm per axle) spacers that will fit an E30 M3 ? BMW 5-lug (except E39) H&R 15mm Wheel Spacers (pair) If so I'll order them up. TBH I never even had the wheels on my car off, havent got it that long, so I presume its 5 stud same as an E36? Many Thanks PS - Is a std on M3 E30 4 stud then? |

M3 E30 is 5 stud. The exclusion of the E39 is because of bigger centre bore. All BMW 5 studs wheels do fit as long ET is ok for your application.

That is the part number on my 15mm spacers. Remember you will also need longer bolts (5 per wheel - or 4 plus a longer locking bolt) the standard ones have about 30mm of thread so you will need 45mm long. Don't think you can get away with standard because they probably won't reach the hubs for even one turn. Changing to studs (like Ian (above)) makes fitting the wheels much easier and may be achieved for less than £40 - there is a guy regularly on ebay or I can give you his email.
