Well i am starting to get used to life with my M3 evo convertible and so far i am very happy.

i am starting to notice however that the car is actually pretty noisy when i am driving below 50mph.

what i mean is just general transmission noises etc, when i am over 50 it seems to settle down but i think thats because the outside noise increases rather than the internal noise going away.

does anyone else find their car is also pretty noisy in the cab?

also i have a short shifter fitted to mine which is awful lol, it is so notchy it's unbearable.

i wondered if they are always notchy or if it is due to the short shifter on mine.

i have the standard one too but havent tried it yet.

bennymac.

The cab is a noiser car than a hardtop so you have to be
prepared for outside noise leaking in the cockpit.

Squeaks and outside noise are a small price for the ultimate
coolness in the summer, or any dry day!!

Maybe worth getting the VANOS checked by a
dealer. If they go they are over £1000 to replace . These
can cause engine noise from wear. Did you buy from a dealer
with a warranty?

My gearbox is standard but not notchy. Nice and tight for a
70k miler :-). Maybe worth trying the original.

thanks dan

i know what you mean about external noise but the sounds i am hearing are not external.

as for the Vanos i don't know what that is but the car has only just had a class 1 service and has full history for some peace of mine.

i bought it private so i have no warranty

car only has 44k miles but i will try the standard stick this weekend for sure.

p.s. i have a hard top for mine which may also be helping increase the transmission noises inside the cab?

great news i replaced the crap short throw thing with the standard and all the gears are excellent, very pleased with myself for managing to do it.

next wuestion is how do you adjust the clutch?

my bite is pretty low but the pedal travel is very long ? is there anything i can do or do i just live with it ?

the clutch sounds about right to me. my clutch bites at the bottom/middle which I personally prefer. Just your ankle moves rather than your whole leg which give better control.
