My cruise control does nothing regardless of the direction the switch
is pressed. Checked the fuse and tried pulling up on the clutch but no
joy. Brake lights are working so safe to assume the brake switch works
OK. Where is the clutch switch located, I read somewhere that it's not

As far as I'm aware, there is no operating light for the cruise control. I have had the same problem on mine, since I bought it, but have just left it as a) most of my mileage is along back roads, and b) I've got other things to sort out first! But, if you find a solution, I would be most interested to find out what you did. I believe that there is a control module that looks after the cruise control, but that is purely from memory and could be a complete lie!!! I thought I'd bring this back to the fore, to see if anyone has any ideas as to how best to breathe life back into an unserviceable cruise control. I'm popping over to Belgium/Germany in a few weeks, so it would be nice to have the relaxing option of slipping into cruise control for the sprint along the Autoroutes/Autobahns. Could be a faulty cruise control module ? (In the electronics box in the engine bay next to the engine ECU).
The switch is on the "clutch pedal support bracket" according to Bentleys. -------------

The clutch pedal switch disengages the cruise control when you use the clutch.

It looks like the switch for the brake pedal is an extra set of contacts in the normal brake light switch, if you can find it there should be 4 wires coming out of it and 2 from the clutch pedal switch.... -------------

I fitted cruise control to an E34 recently.
The clutch switch is on a bracket that bolts (with a single 10mm nut and washer) to the pedal box. It looks like a brake light switch but they are not the same. 
If you can wait a couple of weeks, I have two or three complete E34/32 cruise control kits. I would imagine the problem is the ECU. It fits under the bonnet, in the big black box in the rear driver's side corner (four big crosshead screws). It's the smallest alloy ECU with the blue plug. Other things to try; do your brake lights work? A faulty brake light switch may well just render the whole lot u/s. Clutch switch - the pedal needs to be pressing the button in all the time. If the pedal has been adjusted for height after a clutch job, this will permanently disable the cruise control. Drop the lower dash panel down and you'll see it. I tell you what, having had a couple of cars with c/c, I wouldn't want a car without it now. |

If you are at Rockingham this weekend (Sunday), you
can try the cruise ECU from mine and see if it works. If it does, you know what the problem is and I can sort you out an ECU. They're in a cardboard box. Somewhere...........

Thanks, Andy. Due to PC melt-down, I haven't checked the forum 'till today, so I guess we've missed the boat on Rockingham!! I'm going to check the part number out, so that at least I've got a fighting chance of knowing what I'm talking about!! Then, perhaps, I can try a few things out...
