Just about to commit to my wheels, but now i'm looking at pics of E34 with M Parrallel and my old M5 with it's throwing stars,  which would you go for??

(newly re-furbed M Throwing star, or New replica M Parallel?)

A choice between genuine and copies, personally, I would always go for the genuine option...

Also, "throwing stars" seem to be a bit rarer...

Throwing star.  Every time.  And not because I just happen to have a set of turbine centres you could fit for that early M5 look.  :-)

Anyone know if these will fit?  19" on an E34 with 10" rear tyres and 9" fronts?  I like them but thought they were too big!!

Throwing stars. Also known as M-"System II" Style 21 alloys.

Just as well I've got a set for my old Six.

By the way, please note that although they were fitted to both the E34 M5 and E31 8-series, my understanding is that the offset differs between the two cars. You should obviously want the E34 set, and not the E31, otherwise there might just be some weird effect.

The set you can see on e-Bay look as though they are meant for the E31 Eight. The set applicable to the E34 Five has a removable centre disc. For a closer look at how the wheel breaks down into its component parts, http://bigcoupe.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=527 - CLICK HERE

You will find the offset statistics for this wheel style http://zoouz.free.fr/Wheels/style/style_021.htm - HERE - study before you part with your cash.

MC50,

How much do you want for them. I could be interested - I have seen an M535i with them on, but I take it they are genuine? I would probably be only able to fit replicas as they're maybe too big and would need some arch rolling.

They are currently on ebay  at £450 with toyo tyres. I believe they are genuine but not sure as they came with my M3 for which the rear arches had to be rolled.

Once again, check your offsets. General rule is that 3-Series wheels will not transfer very well to the 5, 6 or 7....

The copies have indentations for the badges!!  on the photo it looks like the badge has come off the wheel suggesting it wasn't stuck very well (i could be wrong, just looks missing) which would also suggest replica.

Easiest way is to have a look at the back of a wheel!!  the replicas don't have BMW stamped in the back do they?

Those wheels on ebay look like replicas as they look like one piece.
I have seen them advertised in old BMW mags but can't remember who
made them. I think that they stopped making them for legal reasons.

I'm almost certain that all 8 series CSi throwing star alloys are 3 piece
with 8J fronts and 9J rears.

yeah there was another set of just gone on!!  i'm bidding, but then realised they have 4x same covers!!  all nearside ones!!

Also sure that same guy contacted me and wanted £750 for them, no offers!!  i tried bidding him!!

As for the other being replicas, i can only say i've never seen replicas!!  Horsetan's theory on a one piece centre seems to stand up to me!!  and he said he has a set already!

I remember now - they were called Alpha M5S as I tried to locate a
supplier to be told they had stopped making them. They were definitely
one piece and all one size which made them cheaper to make I guess.

The ones for '£750' are genuine BMW but check if E31 or E34.

Well I think he's cobbled a set together out of many!!  he has 5 for sale on there. the fact they have two WRONG covers is a bit disappointing, as they'll be £75 +VAT each from BMW and might not even match the colour of the wheels/other caps!

Ah!!  see what you mean!!  but it looks like the Alpha M5s are a different shape!! seem like thinner spokes!!  Supposedly you could still get them in Europe but stopped selling them in the US

Dident I say they were reps ???  I tried to by a set last year just for tracking my M5 but decided against it, they were on a seven but were sprayed gold!! but I guess the buyers was fooled into thinking they were real as they made mad money! max I would go up to on an e34 rear is ET25 and lowest on the front is around ET11 e31`s do fit but there's enough e34 ones out there just hang on for a good set, I sold a rough set well 2 x rough 9" rears but 3 mint 8" fronts just before xmas for £200 (no tyres/covers) coz I needed room, I took them to donnington and dident even get a sniff at £250!!

Wheels designed to fit the E39 (and probably the E65 as well) have a hub centre bore diameter of 74.1mm.

You might have to have to fit converter rings to the alloys to bring them down to the E34's hub diameter of 72.5mm.

Yip!!  the spigot rings were anticipated!! it's the ET24 offset and the size that worries me!!!  they're fitment is for the E64, and E65!!

not sure what the bore is on these?  but nothing a good machine shop can't sort if the spigots aren't available!!

the fountain of all knowledge (E34 website) shows 19"s as being an option, but say the tyres should be 275 30 and 245 35  how much bigger is a 40 and 45 ?  this is surely going to knock the speedo out, and tyres alone are going to be £1000 if i need to change!!  is it doesn't knock the speedo out too much and they don't rub i'll be happy, but any advice how much by? not sure how you work out tyre size!

jeeeeeeesus, why did i go for 19"s???    i suppose they were available!!!   but if they don't suit they ain't staying!!

If my memory serves me right, M5-UK had a set of the said 19" wheels on his e34, might be worth a PM to check.

Did someone call ? ....

I do have 19" wheels, 8" Front ET20 with 245/35/19 and 9.5" Rears ET13 with 265/30/19's....I think you will have major problems trying to fit 9" with an offset of ET24 to the front of an E34...

jeeeeeeesus, why did i go for 19"s???    i suppose they were available!!!   but if they don't suit they ain't staying!!

275 40 is 10% larger than your original wheels and 245 45 is 9.5% larger. You will kill the acceleration of your car but the top speed will be higher...

Ideal tyre size for 19" wheels is 245 35 19 front and 265 30 19 rears (not even sure 275's would fit without wheelarch modification)

Not sure if these are OE M5 alloys as they are appear polished.

At 8.5x18 they could be 7 series wheels.

Worth a bid though as they fill the arches better on an E34 IMO.

Just check if they are OE or repro.

IMHO,

they wouldent look right on an e34 anyway as the e34 ones were painted and not polished.

Bid up to £760 and still reserve not met - and carriage is £70 on top of
that. Add £500 for 4 decent tyres and it's a lot of dough.

Wish I'd kept my set now - doh!
