...to accelerate from 2000-4000rpm and then from 4000-6000rpm in third gear?

You might recall my poor dyno results a few weeks back, well over christmas I've used optimax, reset the ECU and cleaned the mass air meter (and tried another but it felt exactly the same) and ran a tankful of injection cleaner through it and it seems to be opening up nicely now.

Before I spend good money on a dyno I'd be interested in how my acceleration figures are.

Mine takes 4.1 seconds from 2000-4000 and 4.3 seconds from 4000-6000 in third.

What are you guys getting? (honestly please, I'm trying to be scientific!)

Ok, test carried out from holding revs at 2000rpm, accelerating to 6000 rpm, with a split time at at 4000rpm

Times average of 3 runs

2k-4k : 3.83 secs

4K-6K : 4.07 secs

Many thanks indeed for that data.  Interesting that on the dyno my torque dropped off smartly from 3500 yet now it seems to hold its own compared with yours better from 4-6 than 2-4.  I make mine about 5% and 8% down respectively.  The number of seconds will be inversely proportional to the average torque figure so this is a very useful indicator.

I should have asked what modifications your cars have too.  Mine is standard.

Does everyone else have a very pronounced "flat spot" almost exactly at 2k?

If I get a dry day I'll test mine properly but from the eye;

Est. 2k-4k : 3-3.5 secs

Est. 4K-6K : 3-4 secs (max)

Speed and rpm seem completely linear and parallel. The small step at 2000-2500 where the cam engages delays the first increment but at the second the M is in full swing. Will try to get you some more accurate readings but M running (also Optimax) different induction and exhaust so will vary a little (put 345bhp gross/274lbft down on dyno). Eisemanns open up fully at 4K as well and rpm seem to increase more rapidly over the last 2 gees.

I've not seen a single map (std or chipped) without the step, which makes me think it's cam profile rather than VANOS but certainly a re-map softens it out to the pt you get a shallow increment where there was a flat spot before.

With de-kats the flat spot turned into a 40lbft drop in torque..!!

How many of these 160 reads are from E36 evo owners? Come on guys, let's have some data here... ;)

After such a spectacularly poor show of data (apart from RoryC & M BLUR, thanks -- top chaps) I've decided to throw good money after bad and get back on the dyno this weekend as the only way I can find out if I'm moving in the right direction.

Won't be ****d to post the results though. ;)

Of course different dynos knock everything else out.. when was the dyno last calibrated?
