Some of the E30 M3 owners have been talking of a Ring trip next year, for the Easter weekend of Friday March 25th to Monday the 28th. So now is the time to get some other M Power owners interested in joining in.

The Ring is open for 4 full public days, 8am until 7:30 pm each day and is the first public open weekend of the year, which means a huge petrolhead fest for anyone that loves performance cars.

For anyone that's interested in joining in, then please read the site in the link, as it covers everything you need to know about the Ring and making a trip there.

http://www.nurburgring.org/ - Bens Nurburgring site

There's no dates, times, ferries or hotel details set in stone yet . This is more just to let some of you guys know that an M Power contingent is looking at going.

Hello Brian,

I share your sentiments, Lets get a good turn out of all M powers, not just the E30 M3 brigade.

Its an awesome weekend and will be more enjoyable, to have you all along, but especially  to first timers knowing that they are part of a Brit contingent, who can advise and assist, and will not be encouraging ring virgins to do sub 10 minute laps A La Clarkeson. The group that went last time all managed to get in some fast passenger laps with our resisdent Ring Vet John.

Just a lap with John around the ring is more than good enough reason to go.  Toby`s cheeks have still not returned to the front of his face such was the smile on his face after completeing a passenger lap.

Go on, you know you want to, and lets see you all there.

Dam right Dave

I'm going to head out, just need to get a move on with the car. Planning to go over a day earlier to get the A-N set up by Martin, if all goes to plan.

Think you should drive the track car over, just go for it!!!

Count us in, we would travel over on the Thursday and a back again on the Tuesday.

Uwe, if you are doing the hotel booking could you let us know want a double room will cost?? Cheers.

The club has arrangements with some of the ferries, I will try and find the links. I prefer the speed of the tunnel but the cost sticks in the throat. The Seacat was pretty quick and an ok cost.

I'll dig around and see what I can find.

Kevin,
double rooms are not very expensive in Haus Marvin. I think we paid 60EUR, but could be wrong. They are on holiday till mid January. As soon I get a reply I will let you know.

I will see if I can organise to go - I still have some laps from my last visit

Keep me posted on the hotel front - I have stayed at the Daniels place - Zur Berg I think and Eddies place the Nordschlief - only 35 euros a night for B&B with ensuite

Looking at the Seacat v Euro Tunnel prices there isn't a great deal of difference when travelling at peak times. There is a 15% discount available on Seacat using the codes in the back of the Magazine.

Given the small(ish) difference in price we will be using the tunnel.

Berlin??? John is from Munich. That's approx 4 hrs to ring if traffic is ok.
MAXX is about 30-45 mins from the Ring.
I am getting a bit concerned about the weather as Easter is quite early next year.

I might be up for some of this; I've only got an old
320i (F plate E30 - with 4 doors) to use for this sort of
thing but the last thing I did the Ring in was an Opel

Getting hotel rooms shouldn't be a complete
disaster, and in the past I've taken a tent!

I would just about camp in the summer time, and thats if there wasnt a hotel room within 20 miles. I'd love to see anyone crazy enough to do that at Easter !

The Easter weekend is the only known date for next year so far . Expect the regulars to have already booked.

I know what you are saying Uwe. It would be nice if we could leave it until the week before to see what the weather is doing. I'm lucky in that I can do that, but then I'm taking a chance on the hotel and ferry etc etc.
All I can say is I've been lucky and been twice at Easter and there was a brief drop of rain, which didn't even really wet the track.
If anyone is only planning on going once next year, then maybe the Easter weekend isn't for you.

PS. Bruennchen is packed for a weekend with bad weather !

I was just looking at Ben Lovejoys report for the Easter weekend of 2004.It sounds one of the better weekends as it goes. 4 days of dry weather and not-so crowded track . I guess it's a 50-50 chance at the end of the day.

For those that have not been to the Ring on a public day , this link should give you a good idea of a typical weekend.

The only known date so far is the Easter weekend. The Easter weekend is the season opener and almost a given that the track is open on the Friday to Monday 8am - 7pm.Check with the site before making any plans though.

The Brits are having doubts on the suitability of going in late March.Seems some want to sit at home and eat Easter eggs, rather than get out on track in their M Power machines

Update yesterday from John on s14.net

Per Nuerburgring Gmbh the track is
being cleared of snow and repair
work has commenced. They say the
work will be completed on 19. March
in time for the first VLN race
of the season. Furthermore we have
rising temperatures and the rest of
snow is melting now.

and the weather forecasts are predicting +15c next.

As it is now looking very promising for the Easter weekend who is going?

So who's going then? I had a look at the ferries and I am tempted to book just in case I want to go.
John has given some promising weather forecasts. But there's no guarantee......

Excellent...if Uwe is giving it consideration then the odds on no snow must be pretty high.

Looking at the 10 day forecast it could be wet but I don't mind that. Of course the forecast could be wrong so I will be watching it carefully.

hi all, i have been wanting to make this trip for the longest time and i
think i'm ready to commit now. Can someone please advise the best way
to get from London to the ring? Is anyone driving up in a convoy? Or is it
just way too late to get a ferry time on the friday morning?

Look at this site http://www.nurburgring.org/directions/calais/index.html - Ben Lovejoys Ring site and go the route as suggested. Print this out and you can't go wrong.
If you haven't been to the ring before , then you'd be wise to read the rest of the site ....twice.

I checked ferry availability last night and a lot of the early ferries on Friday morning are booked up.

Here's a link to a local webcam and weather page . Things are still looking kinda white http://www.vulkaneifel-wetter.de/ - Local webcam page

Guys, I assume that you are sailing to Calais...

There was an accident there a week or so ago, a loading platform collapsed into the sea! So, they were only opening ONE jetty! It took my brother 7 hours from Dover! They sailed extremely slowly and then circled the port for hours!

Not too sure if it has been rectified as yet, but something to bear in mind...

Ok.Booked a SeaCat for 1000 Thurs the 24th,coming back Monday 28th 2115.

Getting a couple of single rooms is a pain in the bum . Anyone have a lead on a local hotel with singles spare ?

Spoke to a certain member of this site who is staying home and decorating over the Easter weekend and not taking his 2.5L M3 out to play I was going to take the piss out of him for that, until he then told me he would be welding a part for my car at the same time Thanks !

yes! booked the ferry and now it is just driving there and finding
somewhere to stay. Any recommendations? i don't mind staying a little
away from the ring, i expect most of the local hotels will be full by now.

Try Pension Muhlenhardt. They had one double room left this morning. I've stayed here before and the owner and his wife speak good english and go out of their way to help and look after you.It is also one of the best priced places to stay and is actually within the track about a mile and a half from the entrance and half a mile from the main town.

Well then I will! Uwe, you'd better get your butt down there with us! I was forced to take a weeks vacation to hunt for a house and get the V8 back together but I'm blowing it off mid week to head down with Brian. If I can stop looking for a home you can drop the spade and hit the Ring with us!!!

Just look out for any fast cars in the port or on the motorway on either side. The times I've been, I always seen one or 2 cars heading to Dover or in the port that you then see at the Ring . Look out for anything with a Ring sticker on the back .

There is a ticket machine in the car park. Pay your money, collect your ticket, drive to the barrier , insert ticket and then its 13 miles of fun

Hmmmm. Interesting development. Alan F told me they the GP track and the old Ring are both open this Easter for tourist drives, and it looks like it's true from what I've been told.

For those that haven't seen any racing there, both the tracks can be joined to make one monster circuit making each lap about 25km long ! It's not to late to book you guys

Book-up and come along Uwe. Weather is looking ok and both tracks are open .You know you don't really want to be decorating when you can be on-track

so what's the situation with the new GP circuit... do you know if the extended lap is more than just a rumour?

I have a plan Alan . Travel down to Dover early Friday, afternoon SeaCat, be at the Ring for late evening and then you still have 3 full days of track time. I was told the last time they had both tracks open at the same time was 3 years ago .Given these circumstances, I think you should leave the Easter egg eating alone and come to the Ring

So I guess we'll see you there eh Alan?
