Forum Upgrade 2004

I am going to upgrade the forum shortly (this is your warning!). Currently the forum runs using a MS Access 2000 database backend () and I plan on changing to MS SQL Server, which is a larger, faster and more secure system. It also allows more users make a connection to the database (every time you load a page it has to make a new connection to get the forum or thread details). Allowing more concurrent connections means that there should be very no noticable delays at peak times (something that is currently becomming more and more common).

Anyway, I will take the forum offline for about a day, maybe two, whilst this is happening. I reckon that the change will happen over a weekend as this is the quietest time. I think the change may be this weekend if I can get everything sorted before then but don't hold your breath just yet.

Also, some of the modifications I made to this forum (10 most recent posats on forum homepage, extra avatars, extra smileys, etc.) may not be available immediatley on the newer version but there should be a few other things to keep you all happy.

If there are any teething problems, please let me know asap & I hope this upgrade doesn't cause too much hassle.
