So r12 is the nasty stuff that puches (alledged) holes in the ozone i guess. A newbie asked a similar question and someone else said that the question warranted its own discussion. So let s have one. My question is, who does the not quite so efficient combination gas. Anyone in the West London, middx surrey would be good. And the 'reasonable' cost of a complete 21st century conversion would be what approximately? Let's face it this is England,  a less efficient a/c unit is not that much of a problem is it?

Also My heater seems to on all the time, closing off the vents helps but it still gets hot around the feet. The temprature control knob seems to have little effect even when i'm using the heater. Is there some sort of quick fix for my problem or do I have to pull out heater matrix's etc. Is here a relay I can pull?

It will be the heater valve.

It's in the engine bay on the passenger side bulkhead. 2 screws hold it to the bulkhead, 4 hold the top on.

Not expensive, takes 2 mins to change.

Thanks Andy. Great advice. About £65 and 15 minutes later I have a heater that works. Now all I need is the AC. Any suggestions out there?

No advice I'm afraid, just to add my weight to the request, my a/c is also shot, so advice/suggestions for someone who can do a reasonable job would be appreciated.

-theres a lot of discussion re compressors and coversions to R143a on bcg. Unfortunately I don't think you can easily get diy conversion kits here, like you can in the States. Anyone know different?

cheers

This is one area I can't offer any help in either. My 1983 635CSi was converted to R-134a by a BMW dealer years before I acquired the car, and it has the little blue sticker on the offside inner wing to prove it.....

ML did the air con conversion for me May 2003 and charged £125. This included a treatment of the system because of the higher temperature the gas runs at. Since then it has worrked very well and has not needed a top up. So cost is no problem and forget all the rubbish about seals etc

Regards, John Rogers
