Looking for some help, currently running a 1987 M3 on limited mileage policy with Footman James approx £365 per year, only allowed 3k per year. Now looking to purchase 2.5 Evo Sport 1990, have found car, but been quoted £1200!!!!!! on a normal policy by Footman James as under 15 years old. Intend to do the same sort of milage, car will be gararged every nite. I live in the Woking/ Guildford area, in Surrey, so a safe area relatively speaking. Any ideas |

I take it you won't have any NCB to use on the Evo Sport? That could be the biggest problem I guess... I used to use Hert Insurance Consultants when I had a second car and they matched my MCB from my other car that was with Tesco's... I'm just about to buy a 1988 M3 and had an excellent quote with A-Plan on 01256 355641 but then called Direct Line up to cancel the old policy on my last car and they gave me a pretty good rate as well which I didn't think I would get cause on their website it asks you for a tracker! Suppose it's just a case of phoning round as many places as you can really... shame Footman James can't help you out! Have you got their number as I may give them a call to see if they can get my quote even lower! |

I got fully comp cover from the AA on a my Sport Evo for £800, no need to garage etc but it is my daily car so has my NCB on it. There's another insurance thread on one of the forums down the bottom, the general club one I think. Welcome to the Evo fold BTW... PS Don't go to Adrian Flux, they're hopeless! I have good ltd mileage cover on my Caterham from Egger Lawson (0115 941 5255), Performance direct offer classic cover on 0870 870 4778 (he said flicking thru the back of Total BMW...) |

Any non evo sport owners try elephant.co.uk. I recently got a quote from them roughly £200 less than my current insurers AND with a £250 lower excess. It`ll be interesting to see what my current insurers(Privilege) want when my renewel docs come trhough soon.

Thanks guys for your responses, having called a number of brokers in the BMW car mag. Got the following results which may help others out there. RH Specialist Car Divison would not quote, due the 6 points on my licence dating back to 2000. Heritage 5kpa limited mileage £800 AON again with 5k pa limited £545 with excess of £250 Livingstones 5K limited mileage £450 but with £500 excess and require Thatcham 2. It show ringing round does help!!! |

I have been looking around as my 1995 M5 is due for renewal and Livingstones came out best for me with a limited mileage policy. Also it maybe trying www.confused.com who then hit all the major online insurers with you only having to fill out your details online once. I found it useful to get a ball park figure and then haggle (discuss) on the phone.

I have just insured an Alpina B3, which is even harder to insure than an M3. I was surpirsed that Direct Line came in the most competitive. So def' try them. Although I also live in the Guildford, Surrey area, things can be diferent (even with the same under writer) becuase each broker targets diferent market segments. |
