Got some saving to do yet sadly as i've jsut been sensible and paid off my debts. MY only problem now is the temptation to spend money on my 205 (or worse, having to spend money on it!)

First of all, everything that is on the M Registry is correct. All the stuff about the steering is correct, it is the same as an E30 M3.
The only differences are the suspension design, the body (E30), Glass, Seats, Gear stick and Steering wheel, Red needles on the dials etc, etc (the website has it all)

I myself am a proud owner of a Lachssilber E30 320is which you will find on the Registry (Name: Luke Edwards) I found mine through a private seller and parted with £4500 for a 75,000 Kilometer example (a very lucky find)

The great thing is nobody knows what it is and allthough i would love an evoII or a sportevo, It makes the E30 M3 look common. If you feel like having ago at importing yourself it is not a bad idea, and will save you money although not time, those Italians are not very helpfull.

If you need any more help dont hesitate to ask.
P.S If your Pug is a good condition you should be able to find a buyer willing to pay a good price for it.
Once you own a BMW especially one of these you will never want to get rid of it, I know i wont.

Good Luck

Luke,

Do you ever have any problems with servicing and sourcing parts since the car was never sold in this country? I saw one a while back before I bought my E36. It looked like a great car. Cheaper than the equivalent M3, more performance than a 325 and the insurance of a 320.

Entering an age of Austerity and now driving a Focus Diesel.

With the servicing, it costs as much as an M3 and the engine is the same as the first series of M3, the only difference is the shortened stroke of the 2.0L engine Vs the 2.3L. In comparison as I have driven both I would say that the 320is is just as much an M3 as the M3 but with a little less aggression and a little bit more refined.
I just had the Inspection II done and that cost me £350.00. My mechanic is an M specialist, and deals with all M cars plus Alpina.

P.S. Make sure you get it insured properly (not as a 320i) because if you do happen to have an accident you will be screwed. Most performance car insurance companies will know what it is, and if you go cheap and think you are getting away with a legit policy, you may find out you are not entitled to anything.
My car comes under my companies "specials" catagory, but is still cheaper than an M3

Couldnt never sell the Pug. Only cost me £500, but it's pretty good and will remain as my track day car. Need something nice for the road day to day.

I've owned one of those (they were specifically made for Italy and Portugal) and I LOVED that car!!! I was 19 and made me hook to M powered bimmers. They actually rev 500 revs more than the 2.3 due to its shorter stroke...

Just had a chat with Wayne from German car (very very helpful guy!). They have quite nice sounding grey car in for £4-5k. Approx 95k miles on it with a slight dent in on arch (just pushed in not creased). Got to see what i can sort in the way of money for onenow. Might see if they can find a better one for a few £thou more.

Just read an article in Classic & Sports Car Feb 2002, one you can buy section.

This was one Wayne was selling with 45000km for £6500.

As already stated it does share the quick rack and LSD from M3. It has softer suspension than M3 but the turn in handling and performance are still sublime.

4 stud hubs

2540 built, including a four door.

matt i was thinking of having a 205 gti 1.6 for my next car.... but then i smashed up my 318i and got a 316i.... and im looking at gettin  a 323... this malarkey of a  320is sounds intriguing, but i aint got 4k to spend on a car...... saw one on ebay in france or germany a couple of months ago and thought "what is that" and then thought that it maybe an early type of 318is for the continent only.
