Which engines fit in the '02?

I know some of the E21 engines just 'plug and play' but I have forgotten which ones... also, are there any other BMW's out in scrappy land with suitable engines?

Regards

Nick

Some people have fitted the baby six from the e21, but if you want 6 cylinders you're better off with an engine from the e30 325i.

Here's a link to Richard Sterns site and a 'how to' article.

However, if you want to keep the rev happy nature of the 02 character the s14 M3 motor is a direct descendent of the M10 2002 motor - even the engine mounts are the same. I know of around 25 2002's with this engine worldwide, and mine's one of two I'm aware of in the UK. Oh, and it's a complete hoot to drive!

Yes I would love to do that.. but it's a lot trickier to fit into a right hand drive car than it is in a left hooker...

What I could really do with is a four pot two litre from an E21 or an early five series.

You're not wrong - £500 worth of bespoke manifold, plus considerably more on an e21 steering rack conversion - which is worth it's weight regardless as it's SO much better than the old 02 steering box.

The four pot you mention is almost identical to the 02 motor - what are you trying to achieve?

A 'shopping list' of suitable donor cars, more chance of finding a decent engine that way.

...what about suspension mods, will E30 stuff fit? I am sure I have heard about some 02's out there with E30 front legs and brakes.
