I have aproblem with the Driver's side window. If i use the One Touch System the window raises so far then lowers again. This also happens if you keep your finger on the button. To close the window you have to keep pressing the button rapidly so the window raises in a jerky movement

Any ideas, is it the motor or a regulator problem??

There is the possibilty that there is a safety mechanism, if for example someone had their arm in the window when you were trying to go up. with this in mind, I wonder if the window channels have a restriction or a just dirty, therefore making the mechanism think that there is an obstruction?

Just a thought

I had the same problem on my 318is coupe, supposedly the only way to fix this is to replace the electric window motor, i once had a auto-electrician come round to look at it and he said that it is a common problem with this age car.

I have spoken to a technician at my local BMW dealer who has suggested the following:

Press the Window Button and hold  for 10secs when window is fully open, then press the UP position and again hold for 10secs when window is shut and this should reset the window positions.

Apparantly the window memorises window positions and sometimes need resetting.

Tried it thanks but it didn't work.

However i was wrong in the first place as the window does work if you keep your finger on the button.

So it must be something to do with the one touch system..................don,t know though.

Yeah it's a common fault. The anti trap mechanism stops the window on 'one touch',but if you hold it down it's overridden. On my old 318is a little plastic bush in the motor was broke.I replaced it with one from a second hand motor and it cured it.My EVO has the same prob. now,but I'll prob. get the Dealer to sort it.
