Hi all

I am considering a 2000/2001 M5 purchase and wondered if anyone can give me an idea of typical servicing costs in the UK, also what repairs (if any) are typical to expect on a 30-40k miler. I'm not scared of big bills as I have been running a 3 litre 24v Alfa for the past 2 years and they can be steep to say the least. Just wondered what kind of figure I need to budget.

Thanks in advance

mikeroo99

I have an E34 M5 don't think there will be that much of a difference

discs and pads all round £440 supplied about another ton+ fitted(not dealer)

suspension edc £500 per corner supplied

basic service with fluid change £250(not dealer)

giving that I have a right foot filled with lead I'm getting about 14 - 18 mpg but you do enjoy

tyres 18" £200 for Bridgestone S03 can get cheaper but expect to pay 150+, don't think I'm going to get many miles from these as they're soft but grip is tremendous

I hope I haven't put you off or into a coma and if this info is s**** don't hesitate to correct me

Thanks :) That's not so bad

Do you know the service intervals for the big services eg: xx miles for cambelt etc? I don't know if they V8 is chain or belt driven but from experience alot of cars get sold just before a major service is required and the new owner gets saddled with a 2 grand bill.

The e39 has a chain (or two) and should easily do 100,000 miles before it is checked (and probably 200,000).

The Inspection 1 at BMW is around £400 and Inspection 2 is around £600. It is variable service intervals, but it seems to be on a 6000 mile cycle . . . oil service at 6k, Insp 1 at 12k, oil service at 12k, Insp 2 at 24k . . . ad infinitum.

I pay £150 for 245/40 z18 ContiSport 2 or £170 for P-Zero Rosso - the Pilot Sports are about £250 each. There are a few brands (Semperit, Mandarin, Falken) at the £100 mark.

Just had rear pads replaced - £133 inc vat from main dealer.

Oil service cost £163 - after 8000 miles

4x Bridgestone S03 cost £640 Kwikfit (never again)

They have quoted me £750/890 for inspection I/II

Should have bought a Fiesta (only joking)

Good info thanks, it would be good if there was a directory of recommended independent specialists in the UK.

I aint half looking forward to test driving a few :)
