I have seen this before and I am a bit skeptical about the toi paper. If that enters the engine than good bye bearings. Also I have just taken an engine out of my car with 210.000km on the clock and still running fine with just the standard filter. Don't get me wrong I am not negative about this. Question is only, why having it?
Even if the oil is clean, the molecular structure is destroyed after a certain period of use. And this is one of the reasons to change it.

I was going to say similar - in that just becaus the oil is black, doesn't mean it's not doing it's job.

As Uwe says, the oil breaks down with use which you can't see. The oil has more to do than just lubricate bearings. Its also got to collect debris and soot and other junk, and transport it to the filter.

Nice clean looking oil is nice to see, but in reality, not that relevant (Just look at the oil in a turbo diesel engine after a few thousand miles)

You can use a Mahle Porsche 928 OC46 filter which is 2 times as big as the standard filter.

If you are sticking too 5k mile oil changes and the oil never has any debris in it, it means less wear, that's the whole piont of any filtering process. It only looks clean as there isn't any debris, I don't think they are saying it will extend the life of theoil. IMHO I think it is relavent if the oil is clean 'looking'.

In my opinion the oil change issue is a bit OTT in the UK. Most of the time we are "cruising" with 4500rpm on the motorway. Occasionally some full throttle for a few streches on A or B roads. It's not like Germany where you have the Autobahn with no speedlimit. 1 hour of constant full throttle in 4th and 5th will do more damage to your oil that a month of UK highway cruising.
Different story when you do some track day's, but some of you guy's change oil every 2000mile then!! Modern oils
are very good and I think 5k mile intervals are plenty.

Not sure if I could fit a larger filter in under the Z3M bonnet.. not a lot of space around the stock filter as is...

We are talking S14 here, not S50 or however that thing is called in a M Roadster!
