In this months BMW mag, there is a discounted offer for the BMW experiences at Rockingham. Equates to a 15 pound discount on the 99 pound price. I have signed up and will report back if a waste of money.

code to input is E25DEC0025 at the shopping basket for the 330 ci

Happy to be a BM bore !!

Well I attnded the 'Experience' yesterday and have the following feedback, (sent to Rockingham direct).

"I attended a 3 Series experience yesterday, through an offer in the BMW magazine, at Rockingham and have the following feedback:

Your web page for the experience, (http://www.rockingham.co.uk/experiences/3series.cfm), suggested to me the following:

A 1.5 Hour experience with around 17 minutes in the car
The car would be a 330 Clubsport Coupe.

The received documentation suggests a 2 Hour experience with 17 minutes in the car.

My experience was the following:

Short briefing
A few laps in a standard 330 sport coupe, (not timed but probably around 15-17 mins).
A 'debriefing' or sales talk and certificate presentation.
A fair bit of standing around watching.

In my opinion, this is not what an 'experience' should be, and as such, the 3 Series product is mis-represented. I would not again travel 150 miles for such a waste of time when track-days are available more locally albeit at similar or more expensive prices, and in your own cars.

I will send back my feedback form to you via post and post my impressions on the BMW car club site.

I would probably agree that the M3 experience would have been exactly that and regret not going for that.

Sorry to give negative criticism but on the positive side, managing expectations is what it is all about isn't it? I wanted to attend the experience to get some idea of what my car, (auto 330 ci sport coupe), could do on the track at the limit. The experience does not even touch that.

Unless you live close or want to try the M3/Lotus Elise/Single Seaters/Mini Cooper S, don't bother. Even then, I would only go back to try the M3 or Single Seaters, (around boring oval).

Response from Rockingham:

Thank you for your email regarding your BMW 3 Series Experience.

At Rockingham the cars that we use are a maximum of up to 6 months old, therefore we promise a BMW 3 Series experience and do not state the particular model, as they can change.

I am sorry that the website shows the incorrect time and I have spoken with the Website Co-ordinator tot get the information updated.

I have also found out that the experience has a schedule, which after the briefing allows time for all participants to make their way to the paddock area.  They will be in the car for 17 minutes, and will have waiting time in the paddock area either before or after (or both if they are the middle driver) after their in car time, as the experience allows for 3 drivers to go out in the allocated time.  The debrief session also allows for a question and answer period and the issue of certificates, but can be over quickly if no points are raised.

I am sorry you feel the experience was not what you expected and mis-represented and thank you for your feedback.  I have already passed on your comments to the relevant departments and have recorded your comments on file.

Again many thanks for taking the time to write into us, as it is only through customer feedback that we can make Rockingham the success that we all want it to be.

Regards

what a rip off

Having cancelled a "classic car experience" at another venue (jaguar e-type, porsche 911 and ac cobra) due to the shock at the lack of time experienced driving the cars vs. the money lashed out, i was really tempted to do the M3 Experience instead at Rockingham as I would have been relatively near there on holiday last November (well, at least in the bottom half of the UK... ) but they didn't have any suitable dates that were mutually convenient

Reading your review, all I can say is I had a lucky escape... I got a good few hours at Knockhill driving a race-prepped Ford Fiesta XR2i and Formula Ford single-seater on one of their courses in 1993 (when I was 17... was it that long ago? ) for similar money.
