As TJ said, there is a big difference between BMW CC Better Driving Days & the open track days you see in Mondello. The open days invite every headcase in Ireland who wants to trash their car. The Better Driving Day is designed & run by people who love their cars and want to improve their driving skills.

Hi everyone,

Mark here from NI-BMW, Northern Ireland's BMW Owners Club & Forum.

We would like to come down to the Mondella day to give our support and just to meet up with you.  We missed out last year as the club was deciding its future and other things but were now back, stronger and with a new site and forum which is doing really well.

We had our first meet on Saturday 27th March and it was a great success, pic's on the site.

It will be good to meet up

Mark

It's the National circuit to the best of my knowledge...

For insurance reasons, anyone driving must be a member of the club.
It is the National circuit - booking the entire track would have been twice the price.
As it is the National section, costs will be approx €100 per car.

I did boil my brake fluid last year but have now flushed it out and use Mintex Blue which has a higher boiling point.

I was having a bit of trouble with brakes boiling on the first session last year, but that was directly due to me covering the brakes as I learnt the braking points.

Once I got the braking points down, and was braking as hard as I could over as short a time as possible, it wasn't an issue and brakes lasted the entire day with only a marginally softer pedal.

I was running Pagid fast road pads on the front that day & everything else stock. I've upgraded discs since then & now have Pagids all round so hopefully they'll perform a bit better again. I'll also be removing foglights to save them from cracking due to gravel thrown up, and give a clear run of air to the tyre and inner wheel/disc area.

the trick is to brake hard and quickly coming to the corner and your fluid should live for another day

Yes, brake as hard as possible for the shortest time to allow the maximum time to cool down. The first session was wet so TJ's experience shows how much heat you can get into the brakes if you ride them.

I had no brake fade at all on EBC Greenstuffs up front, stock discs and fresh DOT4 fluid.

I'm going to try to budget for a trip to mondello park next year. It sounds like a good little circuit. The ferry from holly head to dublin was going to cost about £60 this year through irish ferries (spring deals) but the missus has pulled on the purse strings and is buying a new kitchen instead. Theres sod all wrong with the one we've got! ( can i say sod all on the forum?)Women.......aaaaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhh and then she says "i suppose you'll be wanting some new tyres next?"    its funny that,   they do look a little "low"on tread

Anyway, hope to be there next year boys

that reminds me, my rears are as bald as an egg~ i mean absolutely no thread left whatsoever.. probably -1.6mm [legal limit] i'd imagine, its not a good idea to track it then considering ive not got a spare to get me home? or should I just chance it & rip the shyte outa them until the wire begins to show..
man down the pub says there's like 16billion layers of rubber on a modern day tyre anyhow and you'd want to be "fierce unlucky for a blowout"

I'd be more wary of driving them on the public road in their current condition to be honest!! If they are that worn, a commited track session will have the wires poking through in no time, and you'll still have to get home...

The track could eat the edge of the tyres in 5-6 laps. Get some 2nd hand (or throughouts) from your local tyre guy.

Well I just disposed of 3 tires for 18 inch rims and would have been ideal for somebody as spares

Just as an aside to Mondello, am I correct in saying that you will have the T-shirts and mugs that people ordered with you tomorrow Killian?

If so, it might be a good idea for the people who ordered something to ensure they have money to pay for them!

That way we can all look resplendant in our BMW T-shirts sipping out of our BMW mugs, whilst admiring a pitlane of BMWs being driven as their chassis engineers intended.... warms the cockles of my heart it does!
