I'm in the look out for some valve lapping compound.

I've bough myself a second hand cylinder lawnmower and want to sharpen the blades which you can do using valve lapping compound, the same stuff that you use to polish valve heads in cylinder heads.

Anyone suggest a source where I can buy lapping compound from?

A search on Halfrauds web site for valve lapping compound only throws up bike tyres (valve!) but did throw up the suction tool which comes with coarse and fine paste. It's a start but I'd need a fair bit of paste.

...aka Silicone Carbide grease.

I bought the Halfrauds valve lapping tool with the pastes and got good results but will need more paste.

The guy at Halfrauds knew what I was after, but he didn't stock any.

Looks like a t'interweb purchase.

Cheers Pitsy.

It was their forum (which you need to pay to join!!! not like on here) which brought it to my attention.  Never found that page though.

I can buy largish tubs of silicone carbide grease from fleabay, along with two left hand thread M12 x 1.75 nuts which I can lock onto the spindle to then turn it in reverse with my drill to do the sharpening.

All good engineering fun.....
