The time has come for me to start looking at replacing the front brakes on my E60.
I've used OEM bits on the E39 and they were ATE discs and Textar pads, bought from Eurocar Parts for a lot less than BMW and never had any issues with them.
Eurocar Parts are listing Textar and ATE for front pads but they then go on and tell me they won't fit my car even though I've told it what car it is and that is what they are suggesting? Pads ~£80. If they are the right ones.
Front discs appear to come back as Pagid, never heard of them, anyone got anything to say about them. Pagid discs £107.94 each inc VAT
Can anyone advise the OEM discs and pads for E60s.
Called very helpful and friendly parts dept at BMW Harry Fairbairns Giffnock
Discs £131.67 each + VAT
Pads £96.50 + VAT
Wear sensor £17.25 + VAT
£452.08 all in. Not suprised but it is still on all original discs and pads after 68,000 miles so can't complain.

OEM is Jurid (310) for front pads, rears are Textar (T4166).
Pagid are a reputable manufactuer, have a road car range and an extensive track/race car range of pads. Have you looked at C3BMW? |

Pagid, now there's a name I've not heard in a while, didn't realise they were still going.
As long as you stick with OE or a reputable make you should be ok. I fitted brembo discs and pads all round on mine the last time I did the brakes. IIRC the front discs and pads all together was about £150 and rears were about £100 and they've been excellent. I had a bit of an emergency when I had to replace the front discs and pads on the wifes car due to the pads chewing the discs. The only set I could get in the short time I had were a make called apec, well what a load of rubbish! Everytime you brake the damn things squeel like there's a next of friggin mice caught in the calipers. Never again. The thing is, OE or not, the manufacturer continuously develop their parts using information from warranty claims and audits made on the dealers. The components you fit on your car from the manufacturer are constantly upgraded to improve their performance and logevity. Factor stuff keep there parts as original as the first day the vehicle rolled off the production line which is where they get their original pattern from. That is how they keep costs low by using the original design and materials instead of upgrades that the manufacturer recommend. In some cases it can be worth going for cheap but just be careful for cheap imitations that don't live up to the manufacturer spec. Happy hunting. Mike

Had the brakes appart on the car on Saturday morning, OEM pads are ATE for mine but no one can tell me who makes the discs, they aren't Jurid (as they don't fit!) and there are no markings on the existing disc to inform of a manufacturer. Got myself some Textar pads to fit, will probably end up buying BMW discs as any after market parts that I have found that fit my E60 say they are all single piece steel discs and weigh plenty. Existing discs (original and nearly 8 years old) are two piece with an alloy hub and are considerably lighter than the single Jurid one I tried to fit on Saturday morning.
The pads on my E60 are the same as anything above a 525i in the E60 range and will also fit the 6 Series, the discs on the other hand are less widespread, V8 E60s and 6 Series only, hence finding aftermarkets ones are problematic.

I have now ordered a pair of BMW genuine front discs as I could not find any OEM discs nor any manufacturers that stated the discs were the lightened type with alloy hubs and steel discs.
After seeing how heavy the Jurid (albiet the wrong size) one piece ones were I was concerned about adding to unsprung mass so played safe but more expensive. The discs on my car are original and have done 70,000 miles so I can't complain.
