Hi there,

I've just bought a 1982 635csi.  Bodywork is very nice and drives really well.  After driving it 140miles home I parked it up.  I went to start it the next day but put my E30 key into the ignition by mistake.  Having realised I got the 635csi key but the car would not start.  It doesn't turn at all.  I think the ignition barrel has gone  but wanted to know if anyone has any advice.  Could it be anything else?

Cheers.

When you say, ' It doesn't turn at all.' I take it you mean that the ignition barrel does not turn?

In which case yes, I would look at the barrel first. If youremove the steering coweling then you should be able to get to the ignition switch behind the barrel, if you remove this you should be able to use a screwdriver, or similar to, to turn the switch and start the car, if it starts then barrel is goosed.
