...sounds expensive.  Is it an air shock or some form of air bag in addition to a spring that you have?

It's a rubber ballon thingie. There are no springs in the touring.

£185 for the "spring" and another £80 for the level sensor (indicated as faulty by INPA)

changed it all in the morning when it was raining.
Now the sun is shining and my rear level suspension is still inactive. Seems to pump the rear ride height all over the place. There are no fault codes showing so I am not sure what to do next.
Bit miffed about it really.

If it can't obtain a constant level, does that point to a dodgy new level sensor valve?

what do you mean level sensor valve?

I have replaced the level sensor on the trailing arm (electric) and can see in INPA that it reads when you push the rear up and down. So does the left sensor.

I had the same on my old 528 and fitted 2 working sensors from the scrappy and that didn't need any reset.
Just drove and after 1 hour the light went off and selfleveling was working fine.

Well the last thing I want is to take it to the stealer and pay £50 just to get the computer plugged in and telling me what I already know, there are NO fault codes.

the compressor works, when I use the manual control in the softwar I can raise and lower the rear.
But as soon as I leave it to the cars computer it lowers the rear almost to the bump stops.

tried to set the ride height in the software but no response. Maybe I am just to daft and press the wrong buttons.

Sorry I meant "dodgy new level sensor". i.e. could the new part that you have just fitted be faulty?

Could there be a fault/leak in the air lines?

What's INPA?

INPA is the software that BMW uses when you go to the dealer. All the testing and fault codes etc.

With this I can actually see that the sensor is reading.

I drove to work today in "transport mode" (self level diabled) and have now switched it back to normal.
So far the rear is still up. Let's see tomorrow morning.
Fingers crossed.

There is no leak in the air lines. I can rise and lower the rear manually via software and it stays there. Just doesn't want to activate the compressor on its own.
