I have just put my 2003 545i on Autotrader, having owned it for two and a bit trouble free years. Check on-line for the ad; it's the one in Troon!! I'm hoping to replace it with an E60 M5.......I'll keep you posted.......we'll call it plan"A".
Great car for someone..........

Hi all. Sold the 545i tonight. Test drove an E60 M5 yesterday. Still working towards plan "A". By the way, the M5 was absolutely NOTHING remotely like the 545, I was quite surprised.

Plan A is still the M5. But, I've only ever driven the E39 ones. This E60 is a brute. It's quite jerky, the autobox is odd, with a big delay between changes, even with the change speed at fast. Same with the paddles. There are strange noises from the back end too, diff area. It will definately take a few weeks to get used to. This wasn't an old one either. An 07 plate with just under 18000 miles. Odd...

Yes an M5 will be a beast there is no doubting that but it is in a completely different league than the 545i.

The M5 will be harsh with its power delivery.  The reviews I've seen of it say it mibbie isn't best suited to going to the shops (autobox doesn't like toodling around), if you know what I mean, but if you drive everywhere like you stole it then it will be most happy as will you.

I didn't think that it should take terribly long in gear changes. Might be worth driving another M5 just to check if that was a one off?

Yes, it is not a car to nip down to the shops. Before I bought I'd need a fairly extended test drive. Also the one I drove had a bit of a chequered history, so it may not have been a good example.
