well after 8 years of happy ownership a (suspected) blown head gasket has ended the relationship

car runs fine but with outside temperatures near zero it needs A LOT of cranking and full throttle in the morning to get it going. Once started it drives and starts just fine. You can smell petrol on cold starts so I guessed and over fueling problem.
Changed engine temp sensor and had injectors cleaned but no difference.

THERE IS WHITE SLUDGE UNDER THE OIL FILLER CAP

Tried to make compression test but my cheapo compression tester has a mind of it's own but from what I can see it is BAD.

Cars spec:
S-plate 318iS 1.9 M44 engine
4 door saloon.
full M-Pack from factory, i.e. bumpers, steering wheel, seats etc.
black cloth. Interior is very good condition, non smoker.
white indicators
159k miles
AC Schnitzer 17 inch copies. All more or less curbed but not buckled.
Tax 4/10
MOT November 2010. Only needed new ball joints to pass
back box not too old either

BAD POINT:
obviously engine problems. Runs and pull well once started. Driven once a week to seaside and back 240miles on top of weekly commute
RUST! There are a few spots on the doors and the rear arches. Please see pictures.
Can take more pictures on request.

To comply with forum rules I have to stick a price up but every sensible offer will be considered.
Car is in Luton area

£999.00

please contact me under mailuwe@ntlworld.com

RUST! I am sure there are more small rust spots, here just the most visible

forgot to add:
has got A/C but not working. (hole in condenser)
4 decent tyres (Falken) with enough thread left for another year.
4 electric windows (rears stuck in rubber due to lack of use)
and (drumroll): GLOVEBOX TORCH, LoL!

took the car this morning to drive to work (50 miles) and it started with a flick of the key!
Temp gauge is sitting right in the middle and does not move. also white sludge has almost disappered, so could just have been short journey condensation?

Car runs and drives as it should but I believe starting problem will reoccur when ambient temps go down.

It sounds like the MAF has gone t*ts up. You changed the right temp
sensor.......? I'm not sure if the M44 has a single or double one.
It sounds like the engine itself is okay - unusual for an M44 to go wrong.

Unusual also to see a Samoa blue one with the M Technic bodykit. The
rust is normal on these as they were mainly South African built.
I don't have a carbon footprint. I drive everywhere.

had a MAF sensor fitted as well, still no change. As soon the temp is above zero it works fine!
