Reading this is scaring the pooh out of me. My Mrs has to
commute to Belfast every day for work, a good hour there
and back at 06:00 and not getting home until 21:30. At
least there isn't much traffic but there's a flip side to
that, no one clearing the roads ahead either.

Thank god she's got the Golf now, at least she's got a
good chance in that rather than the beer can she was
driving before it... a 206. I think the train might be
getting used a fair bit this time home, for once I might
miss Brazil, 30 degrees and getting warmer towards
Carnival!

Be safe out there!

Glad you made it back safely Issy... My BM hasn't moved for about 6 weeks now!
The wifes Yaris has been great (touch wood) Although the wipers keep freezing, and miss the windscreen...
Was in Edinburgh at New Years and the roads were still quite bad!

was today!!!

We went to visit my mum in hospital in St Andrews (Claire n Me) and the journey over was fine in the Flying Fiat!

The return journey however was a different kettle of fish!!
The snow started to fall just as we left St Andrews.....it was fine.... we took it easy......till we got to Cupar then the roads had started to ice up and the Feisty Fiat decided to do a bit ice dancing down a hill....scary enough but we made a quick recovery and continued on our way!

About an hour and a half later we reached the Forth Road Bridge only to find there had been a very heavy shower of what looked more like hailstones rather than snow. These had hit the ground and promptly frozen and turned the road into an ice rink. I have never been so scared in all my life with the prospect of skidding into the sea below! (exaggeration I know but you had to be there!!! )

By the time we got off the bridge the roads were gridlock with no one going anywhere fast, jack-knifed lorries, broken down cars and the ice getting worse. Then to make matters worse we heard the M9 had been closed at junction 1 because of bad ice....just great! So we headed towards Barnton and was welcomed by the safety of the lights of Edinburgh!  I have never been so happy to drive through the town. We eventually got to Musselburgh 2 hours after leaving the bridge where we headed straight to the Chinese for sustenance!
I am now at home with a very large vodka in hand to calm the nerves and all i can say is.................

I take back everything I said about the Fiat and most of all................... thank god I didn't take the BMW!!!!!!
