Nice car, I love 8's ...

SWMBO wants one - but I think I've convinced her it will cost her (errr ME!) even more to run than the E30 M3.

Cats know your every thought.

But don't care.

Thanks Candypuff, yes I went for the full hit & had it done locally to me (by one of my customers), slight passenger door blemish to be sorted before giving her the wax on wax off treatment......maybe when the sun shines up here again I might get her waxed & some brighter & shinier pics taken

Cheers, Alex

Pits,

Surprisingly the running costs aren't that much more than the 5's I had previously......during the 10 months I've owned her there's only been a set of plugs, f&r tyres, air+oil filters, oil, water pump, lightstrip, exhaust bracket & seat switch been replaced, the cd changer stopped working which was a good time to upgrade the head unit also....26 to 34mpg is acceptable for a 4.4 V8 IMHO !

Cheers, Alex

Very good on the running costs!  I think its pretty surprising how some of these big engined cars are actually pretty good in the mpg dept!  My corvette (LS1, 5.7 V8)  does pretty much the same average as your 8, I amnt familiar with the BM engines enough to know if they run the same, but we can sit at a steady 80mph at 1200rpm and get 39mpg on the motorway.  At the same time though, if you boot it sharply to accelerate so to speak, and it kicks down,  it can go down to 4 point something  - but in honesty I am very surprised at the good economy.  I really like the 8's tbh - one of the list of cars I would like to have - we've run out of space just now though!

26mpg round town and up to 34mpg on a trip to Glasgow (A roads), don't do much motorway driving but 32 to 34mpg when I do.

With the taps open in manual mode it's a struggle to get 15mpg

But TBH, with a cool car like that who gives a flying-fig about MPG.

I see one on my route to work most days, so obviously he doesn't - not at the speed he passes (if he can, when I'm in the M3 ) me -

I love the Goggomobil I dont think I could ever sell him
Trabant - like it a lot - still got the engine to rebuild - one of the 2 pistons it has had sealed itself very nicely to the bore - looks like heat damage from engine overheating a long time ago (car hasnt run since 1995) but got lots of second hand bits to fix it - and may do an engine conversion at some point as a golf engine will bolt straight in - also you can do a nice hub conversion to 120 4 stud allowing bm and vw wheels as the standard trabant wheels are not quite so exciting!  The trabant cost us a princely £253 and the parts just under 100 so a pretty cheap car at the end up - but agreed not nearly as nice as a nice 8, or an E30 M3 which i really want too!

Apologies - we appear to have hijacked the thread...

Exactly!  100% agree with you.  I you have a nice car and it returns favourable mpg it is a bonus.

I got a leaflet thru the door yesterday from Peter Vardy BMW advertising their range of second hand efficient dynamic BMWs for sale.  Not one single car had a decent engine it it (6 cylinder or bigger).  They all were small engined 1 ers and 3 ers some of which were equipped with horrible diesel engines.  I bought my first E60 from them. I wish they would look at what the customer bought before sending out leaflets wasting their money which could be better spent on reducing servicing costs.  Do they really think someone who bought a 4.4 litre V8 from them is gonna be interested in a 116d with no room in the back?

Petrolheads are not intersted in mpgs.  But more like M models and V8s.....and supercharged V8s.....drool... dream on....

Would be nice to see your big 8 again Alex, I remember admiring it at the meet in Feb.

Be exclusive and drive a Petrol 5 Series!

Andrew,

I will get back to attending meetings in the near future, it's taken a lot longer than I thought to recover from the op I had just after the show n shine.

Did you mention.....supercharged V8...

Even though there is more than plenty grunt throughout the rev range, thats on the 'to do' list

Alex
