Hi guys

I had a strange problem with the car overheating intermittently at junctions or in slow traffic, this was easily sorted by revving the engine for 20 seconds or so, and the heating in the car would kick back in, temp gauge back to normal and all would be ok, but as long as im pushing above 2,500 revs it wouldnt happen.Now i had noticed that my bottom hose was cold, ive taken out the water pump its fine, now what ive done is remove the thermostat, and test it, and believe me ive bled and bled with the nose up as high as i can get it, now the cars not overheating, but there is smoke from the drivers side of the engine which seems to blow through the vents, and its a burning oil smell, when i undone my oil filler cap it had mayo inside so gave up, Now what do guys think, have i definatley fried my head gasket?? im thinking of trying that steelseal head gasket repair fluid stuff,

Firstly, those quick fix repair kits aren't worth the money and could end up blocking channels within the engine. They won't fix any warpage either.

The fact that smoke is coming from the engine is definitely not a good sign. Where exactly is it coming out?

Mayo can occur normally if the car only does short journeys and doesn't warm up properly. Could this be the case?

well drivers side of the engine, its very slight but i cant work out exactly where its coming from, and ive noticed it coming through the vents, strange thing is car drives fine, as long as your not driving at 25 mph in fifth, because if you do it will start heating up but if you then drop into 3rd and give it blast the viscous cools everything back down, ive never known anything so strange, ive had a new thermostat and housing, and viscous 2-3 months ago and all was good, but then it just intermittantly starting doing this, ive noticed my heating has been unbearably piping hot even at 23, im just so confused i took the thermostat out and threw it a boiling mug and it didnt do anything, so i left it out when i refitted everything but the smoke is what made me give up on it.

put the thermostat back , drill a small hole in the thermostat and place it in the 12 o,clock and bleed the coolant system with the nose up. as you well know these cars are a nightmare to bleed, fill the coolant thought the top hose turned up at 90 and wait till the coolant   comes out at the top out let of the rad and replace the top hose , then bleed.if your bottom hose is cold , then keep bleeding and it will ownly get warm after the car is at full operating temperture.

keep bleeding for a few days and do the cold bleed when the car is cold.
