hi im new to this board,and i was wondering if anyone could help me.the thing is that my wiper linkage has give up the ghost on the passenger side.my car is an e39 520i auto, 1997 r reg.now my local dismantler has one but its from a e39 1996  523i,and i was wondering if any of you knowledgeable people would no weather it would fit? your thoughts and help on this subject would be very much appreciated

Presuming you mean the link rod or drive rod (BMW 61 61 8 361 741) which is number 15 in the diagram.
These can and do fall off... About €12+ new and half hour to fit..
Don't bother with a s/h one as it will be damaged by removing..

PS: watch the c-clip when changing - they can and do fly...

i would just like to say thanx alot eddie, your advice was spot on.i've been in touch with bmw in southport, and they have ordered one for me costing £6.40.once again thnx as i was gonna get a whole unit from a scrapper for the princeley sum of £50.00 +vat+delivery.
