2.5 TD - Engine oil in inlet manifold

   Can anyone please explain why the inlet manifold of my BMW 2.5 litre turbo diesel is heavily coated (inside) with what is clearly (darkly) engine oil ? Is there a known problem with a breather, for example, that causes oil vapour to be sucked in? If nobody in the club can answer - please could someone tell me who might?

	Further to my unrespondedto message of 30th Dec - one observation offered elsewhere is that the black, oily sustance in the inlet manifold may not be engine oil, but fuel oil contaminated with carbon. Anyway - is it perhaps normal to find a diesel engine's inlet manifold internally coated with any such substance? (NB I would never have known it was there if I hadn't had to renew a manifold gasket.) Incidentally, I used to own a 1938 BMW 327/80, sold to a German gentleman called Jurgen about 20 years ago, and was a member of the club for many years then. I wonder if the car still exists? Mike
