Dusting off an old topic here. This car seems to have reappeared at a more reasonable price than the €25k that was being asked back then: http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C129619/ Interesting to follow the discussion with 2 1/2 years of hindsight. Sport Evo's are now hitting £35k in the UK and this is a lot cheaper than it was then. What does that do to the whole desirability/value thing? |

For reference, here is a bit of information about BMW M Cars from an old web site that I used to run. Some of the photos are missing and the odd link no longer works.
Information originally supplied by the MPower section of the BMW Car Club GB. Click on model types/E30 for the full info. http://www.635csi.co.uk/sections/mpwr/index.htm |

I suppose investment wise it's not that bad value. The only problem is I would be afraid to park it in the city considering some little jealous scumbag might vandalise it. For 25k though, alot of nice cars can be had for that money if your buying used that means. If you looked hard enough you could get an E39 M5 which would be a much more useable everyday car and will still manage to entertain you on twisty backroads. It isn't very original obviously because with 75k on it it would have been used as a daily driver by at least one of it's 4 owners in it's life. If it was a 1 owner car with 20k on the clock and in concourse condition it would definitely be worth 25k or even more. It would be ideal for a person on a company car scheme as a weekend toy though!

The thing about it as well is that although (from what I can make out) its a Europameister 1 of 148, the Europameisters are just not as sought after as say the likes of the Sport Evo, Cecetto, Evo 2 etc.
Dont get me wrong - Im not trying to run the car down but facts are facts. And I am so blessed to have owned both a Cecetto and an Evo 2!! |

Each to their own I suppose, some people just like to tinker with a car in a garage or get pleasure out of showing cars at shows, either way if it wasn't for collectors none of these old cars would ever survive. |

At that price they're obviously not in a rush to sell, so will hang on and maybe they just might get the money for it, but it would be closer to €20K than the 25 asking. If somebody is in the market for one, in this condition, they will know the value and will travel for the right car, just because it's in the auld' sod already will make no difference. Although these stupid prices will just keep pushing the VRT up. As previously said by Eamo the side skirts are painted in the wrong finish, which detracts from its originality and a big telltale of the resray, although if its been so well kept, why did it need one in the first place ?

Looks to be in concourse condition alright, although mileage is slightly above average for that specialist genre of car. I like the colour combination, haven't seen that on an E30 M3 before.

as for the restoration bit that would bother me. If there wasnt anything wrong with the car why restore it.
Judging from the pictures it has a respray as the sideskirts have a satin finish instead of a matt finish (common mistake when these cars are resprayed) I would rather buy a car that had totally original paintwork (which are few and far between!) |

it is and it isnt - A Ravaglia is the same car as a cecetto except that it was made for the UK market Instaed of Jonny Cecetto's name been on the car its Robert Ravaglia and even at that there was only 25 Ravaglias not 148. This would suggest to me that this car is actually a Europameister of which there was 148 made. All Europmeisters were in Macau Blue with 16" wheels but power wise were the same as the standard 195bhp m3 Then there were 480 cecottos which added to the 25 Ravaglias gives you 505 cars. Most (not all) of these cars had a plate to identify the number of the car i.e. 227/505. They were 215bhp cars with some cosmetic changes as well, available in 3 colors, 16" rims and painted cam cover in color of car Now to the evo 2. All Evo 2's had a plate as well. There was only 500 of them but they were numbered to 501!! They were 220bhp, light glass and same cosmetic changes as cecetto with painted cam cover in white with m stripes and avilable in same 3 colors as cecotto Also you cant tie in the number of the car with the chasis no either. They were assigned on a random basis. Then theres the evo 1, the evo sport, the French got a Tour de Corse and the swiss got another cecotto version as well. Its a 10k sterling car and no more still plent of mint examples out there that can be bought for the €15k mark - you will have to travel but they are out there. Edited by Eamo |

Well since I worked on the M5 I can tell you that the e28 is in a leak of it's own as it has verry low milage and got restored from ML in the UK also the owner (bayrische) is someone who dosn't cut corners I also believe that the e28 m5 is rarer then an M3 even the ravaglia. AFAIK there are 3 M5's in Ireland but far more e30 M3's However as it is with cars like that there's always someone who might just pay the price. Problem is tho that the overall number of M3's in e30, e36 and e46 shape is increasing rapidly here in Ireland and that will cause overall prices to drop. There are members on this board and over on driver.net who found that out and there aren't happy. On a personal note I love the e30 M3 but I don't think it's the nicest car bmw designed. I feel that the strength of them was as driving cars hence I would always go for a standard car and drive it as it was intended. If I wanna look at them then I visit the bmw museum in Munich wenn I'm over there to see familly. |

chris, i agree with you. If i could i would buy most of my stuff abroad, we pourchased a video camera in the states a few years back, saved £1300, buying prescription sunglasses on the net, saving €170 before duty, i know its gone off topic a bit sorry.
but what about the limited edition part surely that wont reduce in price over the years as it become more rare and more sought after, the same with bayerische's e28 m5 that will become more sought after and valuable in the next few years with collectors. |

It's rip off Ireland because we collectivly make it so and the more this is allowed to happen the better the deals in the UK become. There will be people left with egg on their face so to speak when they buy overpriced items and then fail to shift them. Edited by beemerchris |
