e36 m3 evo gear lever

   the gear change in my evo is not the best. it is sticky when changing from 1st to 2nd. the gearbox doesnt crunch or anything like that. 
the rest of the gears are ok but still not great. 

i was wondering if a new gear lever and mechanism would sort this out.  do i go for standard from bmw or after market? 
is the lever the bit that wears or is it all the connecting parts such as bushes and clips? 
how hard is it to change all of this?
