I have a '92 5-series (E34). I've noticed on mine and numerous other examples of the same model that the nearside windscreen wiper rubs against the bonnet. I've replaced the wiper mechanism but after a short time, the same fault occurs.
Have any other owners experienced this problem ?
Is it a basic BMW design fault ?
Any tips on curing the problem ?

I had the same problem on my E34. Adjusting the bonnet alignment slightly and applying a round file on the offending wiper arm (+ touch up with black paint !) cured it.

ARDASALIAH, I have the same problem with the wiper arm. How did you bend the arm without breaking it.

It is hitting the bonnet so much that moving a few spines makes no difference. I rang Cooksferry who have a very good reputation; they said that to replace the linkage it would take about 3 hours! They said I should try rolling the bonnet slightly so the wiper arm wouldn’t rub. I am waiting on a call to hear the cost of this.
