I'm on goodyear F1 GSD3's, think that they are fine, good grip wet of dry and very progressive on break away. Last well to. |

Uwe Not certain of the rim width, need to check, but the tyres are currently 215/40X17. Will be going wider when I fit KW suspension and raise the ride height a bit, as you might be able to see by the paint damage, I have a slight problem with the tyre fouling the arch on lock. |

I think this is a very subjective thread - and for one reason only. Realistically, you can only really recommend a tyre for a car if you run (or have ran) the same tyre....ON THE SAME CAR. What works well on one car simply doesn't mean it'll work well on another. For example... I had Continental ContiSport's on my M3 Convertible - and took them off within 500 miles of it being new. They were like suicide shoes. Horrific in the extreme. I replaced them with Michelin PS2's (which I'd had on the previous M3 Coupe) - and the car was transformed. However, I had previously had ContiSports on a Jaguar - and they were the only good things about it! Likewise, I was recommended Goodyear GSD3's on my Audi A4 Avant - so I duly replaced the fronts with them (previously Pirellis). They're crap. Yet, they were great on another car I used to have! Characteristics of vehicles are just so varied that you really can't put a lot of faith in what someone says if they don't own at least the same model (if not the exact specification). Yes, you can say "Michelin are a good manufacturer" - but it means little in the scheme of things. EDITED TO ADD: Oh, and by the way, as most of the replies seem to be from E30 M3 owners anyway then I guess it's actually very good advice!!!!!!!!!!! Edited by Coasting |

Well if we are talking E30 M3 here's my run down :-
Road - Bridgestone S02 - Loved them. Bridgestone S03 - Hated them to start with, now like them Kumho - Ok. Limited performance (but you know that given the price - Interesting in the wet at Spa...) Dunlop SP9000 (on my E46 Tourer - I really like these, they work well wet or dry) Track - Yoko A032 - Fab. Suffer slightly when overheated. Yoko A048 - Tried these in 16" - really nice. very stable tyre, excellent grip and wear. Dunlop D02Z - Fab. Better heat resistance to the Yoko and as sticky. Wear rate is better. Rgds Roops |

I bet your pressure wasn't right (not talking about the recommended pressure) SteveM had these fitted on the E30 M3 when we went to the Ring and he hated them with passion. I spoke to guy I know from Switzerland about it and he loved them. After going with his pressure recommendations Steve was very pleased. Sometimes it's worth playing a little bit around. Doesn't cost a thing in the end, it's just air. |

Oh yes!!! I have a set fitted currently. And they work very well, dry and wet. Only thing I would complain about it is dry braking. Could be a little bit more predictable for my taste. They lock up without warning. Or am I only spoilt from all that sticky rubber stuff?? |

I think your just spolit from the sticky stuff, I ran them before the Goodyear F1 GSD3's, Its a crying shame that they don't make them anymore. Used to do rears in about 4k though.

Ive got 451s on mine and 512s on my daily and for the money they are spanking. If you can get some 451s they are discontinued and you can pick them up for 50 quid each (and thats for my 215/35/18) |

Thought that I should resurrect this thread rather than start a new one. Basically, I need some new tyres for my '88 EvoII. I was dead set on a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 225/45/16. However, according to several suppliers that I have spoken to, apparently these have been discontinued by Goodyear. Can anyone confirm this? If they are still available, does anyone know where I can get a set of 4, please? If I can't get the F1s, I was thinking of getting a set of Toyo T1Rs. Some peeps on here obviously speak very highly of them but how would they compare against either Bridgestone S03 or Dunlop 9000? Many thanks in advance . Edited by Bravo73 |

I know! That's why I wasn't sure whether or not they are available. And I'm still not sure! Arrggghhh. Just spoke to the guy on the Goodyear helpline and they don't do 16" F1s anymore. Although, strangely, their sister company (Dunlop) still do the 9000 in 225/45/16. Edited by Bravo73 |

My tyre guy just came back to me they are NLA in 16" although still available in 17". Edit: OK little to late on that one..... the Dunlop's are OE fit on Audi's, probably why they are also still available. BTW the Dunlop is a good tyre, but don't know what it would be like on a M3. Thanks for checking. I'm currently getting prices for the Bridgestones and Toyos although I'll probably be going for the Toyos (due to price and positive reviews on here and elsewhere.) |

The Goodyear GSD2 F1s are still available in the 225/45/16 size, and are excellent on the E30 M3. I think that for a road tyre they are the very best compromise of wet/dry/cold/hot performance. Add to that they are about £105 each fitted, and even do OK on the track. They seem to suffer a bit on heavier cars on the track but for the E30 they are great. They're obviously not anything like the R tyres, but if you have to drive home on them too, they are the best (IMHO). |

They've been discontinued in that size, unfortunately. Or, at least, that's what the man from Goodyear told me today. Unless you know of a secret stash somewhere...? |

I used to love Yoko's A008's. I used to run them on all my cars, and even offered good grip in the wet when they were completely slick. But obviously aquiplained on puddles. My race XR2 we had to use A008R's as a control tyre. These gripped, gripped, gripped then just let go. But the A008's on the same car was a good 1 or so seconds a lap (Combe) slower the car was much more predictable and fun on them. I havn't found that Yokohama have yet produced such a good tyre. But then I 'aint tried them all so really cannot comment. I have Yoko's A539's on my SE which are OK. Can't comment any further than that. |

I recently bought a set of SO-3's, actually before taking posession of the car (M3 Evo II) as they have been discontinued but Bridgestone Importer still had 8 tyres on their warehouse so I bought 4, if anyone's interested I can give you the contact and you can have the other 4... its £675 including VAT (already with 25% discount) and should be about £100 to send them to U.K. The car came with a set of shaved SO-2's (for immediate max performance) which are THE best tyre for this car ever (next witht the good ol' MXX3 from Mich) and I reckon the SO-3's would benefit from this procedure as well.
