Just recently the when warm the idle speed would creep up to circa 1100 rpm and sometimes drop back down. I thought maybe the idle valve is playing up so I have just this afternoon had a look under the bonnet.

I found three of the domed nuts missing which connect the plenum to the throttle bodies (two from the centre) because the studs have sheared off and one of the hoses connecting to the idle air valve (no 17 on ETK diagram 13_0285) was splitting around the jubilee clip (perished) where it joins to the idle air valve.

Both pipes (including no. 16) are on order plus other bits. I guess the pipes have done well to last 18 years.

Potential lean running disaster avoided.

How many other peoples rough running problems can be put down to perishing hoses I wonder.

Both my old Europameister and my Evo2 has air leak issues. The Europa was the elbow, the Evo2 the small breather pipe which connects from the top of the sump to a breather valve. Easy fixes and made both cars rum a whole lot cleaner.
