Im kind of lost there.
Are you talking about the link at the top of the page that, when someone is in the room, says  Chat - 1 online?
If so then this will only update from Chat to Chat - 1 online when the page the users page is refreshed. Although you may not have refreshed your page (and you don't see the users online counter), others who refresh their pageor move to a different page will.

Strange, Tried on another PC & log in screen did not appear, went straight into chat room...... Will try again later on laptop.

If you enter the chatroom at the top level of the menu's e.g. BMW-Board.co.uk it logs on no problem.

But go down a level to one of the sections e.g."Scottish Forum" it doesn't?

The top navigation portion of each page comes from the one file so it shouldn't make any difference where within the site you click the link.
