Has anyone used Norfolk Lines to get from Dover to Dunkirk and back? Are they any good?

Never used them, always used P & O or Eurostar. Never heard of one sinking though. |

Norfolk were mainly commercial traffic, ie freight. However they are going into general ferry operations with 3 brand new ships this month and they do seem to be priced very competitively. They are part of Maersk Group. Norfolk Line have been in the freight ferry business for many years and have a very good record, so I can't see this latest venture failing or experiencing any problems against the other operators.

I used them a few weeks ago.The slowest check-in i have had for years.Very poor signage to get into lanes, for collecting pre-booked tickets--everybody goes for the arrow to one booth, when 2 others are waiting for drivers.Unlike SeaFrance who give you your return ticket, NL do not---SO guess what happens at Dunkirk--but Worse!!!!!!!!!.Food Poor quality and High price,Very poor signs outbound from the dockyard to E40--unlike Calais , and the return trying to find the correct check-in position is a nightmare, checkin was worse than Dover, and staff couldnt care less. Will NOT be going NL--even for free. SeaFrance here I come.

We always use P&O (well our son works for them). They have the most ships and thus sailing frequency. If you want to treat yourself, they also have Club lounge upgrade option, a really good 'silver service' restaurant and you can also for an additional cost have priority loading. None of the other ferries offer these extras or quality IMO. If you want the best price deal for a crossing pm me your details and my son will find it for you, but he is very busy so you need to allow time. Also, P&O have responded to cheap flights by 'demand led pricing', so the earlier you book, usually, the cheaper the fare.
BTW, you might be interested in SpeedFerries Dover/Boulogne crossing. They are a newish operator using a seacat (Hoverspeed went bust a few months ago). Just remembered, that a new operator has started up from Ramsgate to Dunquerke if that is the particular destination you want. Don't know their name or have any other info. My guess is they have 2 sailings a day max. Edited by eta. |
