I have a friend who is looking to buy a second car as his EVO FQ330 is a bit expensive to get to work and back in. He has around 8k to spend.

What kind and year could he get a 320dSE or a 330d E46?

Why spend 8k on a a car if he's wanting a cheap runaround? If it's just for running to work and back is he not better off getting a cheapy?
Anyhoo quick search on Autotrader is showing up 320d around the 02 plate mark for 8k and 00 for 7k,within 40 miles of Newcastle.If he's willing to travel further theres a few 330ds available too on 2000/01 plates.

He wants a car that he will use everyday, he said if he has a crappy car he will just use the EVO. He needs an incentive to not drive the EVO.

If I had an FQ330 I would find it hard not to drive it.

Hmmmm suppose your right like.Btw don't rule out a 5 series, they depreciate more so your mate could find a newer car for the same price as a 3.
