hi, I'm looking for some advice.

I drive a 1999 530d manual and have a problem with a loud intermitent droning/whining noise from around the engine bay. It starts after about 20 minutes of driving and does it regardless of in gear or not.

I have had the clutch checked out about two weeks ago and the release bearing was re greased and i was told that there was still plenty of wear left on the plate itself.

Has anyone experienced this before? I am new to diesels and have little experience of them.

Another thing I was wondering was that it could be the turbo on the way out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

This'll sound daft, but is your interior fan on at the time?  Turn it off and see if the whine is still there.
