track day is what it says do what you cant do on the public road i do loads in the north always used a gsi3000 carlton for it but have bought a e34m5 for the track instead so how can you say someone who is fully committed sideways is a danger unless they cant drive i understand where you are coming from but at this rate you will turn it into one of the english cavlcades like they have TRACKDAY you must be joking more like a sunday outing that is why 3 cars at a time is safe on the track any more you are into danger as for 10 minute sessions they are so hard on the car brakes especially that i personally dont like them but heh who am i to comment hope you all have a safe and good day at mondello a great track although i think it is soo expensive as all the days i go to in the north cost no more than £35 A DAY ALL DAY

That's why we'll put experienced track day people together. The intention is that each (of 3) groups will be with other cars of a similar speed. This gives novices and experienced track drivers apart - minimising overtaking risks and speed differentials!

Once again, Mondello is clearly dearer but more central. For those doing 1-2 track days a year, the cost is not so much an issue. The club has to try and appeal to the broadest range of members in the broadest range of cars. Simply, we could not get sufficient commitment for Kirkistown - a major reason being its remoteness.

eI think there should be a clearer distinction between 'Trackdays' and 'Better Driving Days' I've only really been to trackdays and have had mixed experiences.........

1 very good one at Castle Combe which saw most peoples lap times improving over the course of the day due to advise from more experienced participants. Nothing went home bent or bruised with the possible exception of a few egos!!

1 Very bad one which resulted in three badly bent and two written off cars.

Both of these events were organised by the same club, the only difference being that the first was predominantly a single marque affair and the second was open to any vehicle signed in by a member.

Some people attend trackdays for the sole purpose of taking their car to the limits of the redline without fear of speed cameras.

For me it's about furthering the knowledge of how me / the car reacts to different situations at speed with the intent of making me a better driver at all speeds. I'd love to say that I could take her onto the track in a blaze of rubber and set all sorts of records, but I need to improve my understanding of the cars limitations and my own before I do that - otherwise I'll bend the on the first bend I get wrong.

If events are sold as 'better driving days' they should be just that, likewise trackdays......

Thats my tuppence worth

The world is a tragedy to those who feel, but a comedy to those who think.

Good summary Derek. This is the reason the club has moved towards "better driving days". Your penultimate paragraph defines my expections exactly. I guess I'll be some official of the day so that is the lines along which I would like to see it run.

Some drivers may be very experienced at getting around a track - so they will have a session of their own.

I agree also - I don't want to thrash my car nor do I want anyone else to thrash it!

The avatars are just images designed to fit in a 64x64 pixel space. Any gif or jpg file will work. It will also need to be online for it to work.

If you see any over the internet that you want the email it to me (see below) and I can resize it etc. (bear in mind that a small pic (say 32x32 pixels) won't come out well - best off getting a pic 64x64  or bigger.

Once you have a picture you want online click on the proifile button at the top of the page and change the avatar path. (not all free webservers allow you to do an image link - if your avatar isn't loading properly then email me.)

Don't know where brendan got his but you could try an image search on google [select the image tab] and also look on other forums (obviously when you have permission) right click on the pic and choose 'Save Picture As' [assuming you are using Microsoft]. There are sites like www.gif.com but these are usually crap.

Post any other queries you may have.
K.

I nicked the gif from a forum somewhere. The link was posted here regarding a steering rack conversion.

BTW, I like to think that Eric has his finger on a Nitro button (release for activiation)....
