I'm currently dreaming of buying a nice 635 CSi I've seen at a specialist round the corner from my work. It's a Dolphin grey car with black leather interior on an F plate, 107k miles, no idea about history, running on original 415 metrics. She looks solid in all the right areas, arches, wings, sills and jacking points. Also has air conditioning. I thought a good one of these was heading into five figures, so for 4k should I be suspicious?

Lovely car, but I don't want to get stuck with a dog. Arf.

This is cheap(and with reason as it needs plenty to put it right)

Viewed it and rejected it

4k for a 100k + miles is not suspiciously cheap, you seem to have looked in the most likely places for neglect, all I would say is check that it has the right history to go with the miles, and check the big coupe site for buyers guides if you are not confident about what to look for.

In my limited experience, my opinion of these cars is that they don`t hide their faults easily, you can with a limited knowlege either see them or hear them, I`m sure I`ll get loads of replies of horror stories after the previous comment, but as I say if it looks clean & solid & the history checks, and if it drives ok on the day, you have to buy.

I remember seeing Hammond's car on Top Gear, now that was a pup, so I'm reasonably confident about what to look out for. My only problem is the metrics, a right swine to replace, I'd probably be putting different wheels on it.

It's not fair! They have got a lovely e23 735i in metallic green for sale now.

So many cars, so little space.

4k for a six with that mileage and no rust in the wings, sills and jacking points is a good buy. It will probable need some work, but then again all sixes do.

As mentioned above. If it drives OK and sounds OK then it's a good buy. £4 - £6k is on the money for a good conditioned six.

My Highline could be for sale soon!

Looking at emigrating, will advise further after a week in Dubai where I have a number of job interviews lined up.

The car is well known here, on bigcoupe & has been recently featured (April 06) in TotalBMW mag.

If I sell it, it will be the whole car!

Although, I do have some Alpina reps with 235/45/17's Rainsports on the 8J rims, very very good condition, quite a few miles left in the tyres as well!
