Does anyone know what the rubber spoilers on BMW's from this generation were stuck on with. I have just purchased a new rear spoiler, but the glue is not available from BMW any more - Does anyone know what it is for sure. Clearly the wrong glue would dissolve the paint, and probably the rubber spoiler as well.

Part 5 here:

Incedently the spoiler for my 6 is part 2 on the same picture.

I've used evostick, the brush on king before without any problems.  But any contact adhesive whould work ok as long as the surfaces are clena and dry.  I would suggest using panel wipe to clean the surfaces first.

suggest you search the bcg archives (normgrills.net)- there were posts on this exact topic a while back, and I think the consensus was a 3M tape specifically meant for mounting trim.

hth

cheers

that 3M tape that Brucey mentions is really good, once on it's hard to shift, so make sure you have it level. Pay attention to the leading edges too, as you don't want it lifting at all.

Isn't it bolted down as well and the leading edge stuck down using items 3 & 4? Are those available either via BMW or Walloth und Nesch?

On my car I used only part 4 and bolts to attach the spoiler...and it is really tightened onto the lid...

I don't think the tube (item 5) is necessarily glue - it could be sealant to
stop water from finding its way through the bolt holes in the boot lid. I
took my spoiler off, and it wasn't glued on at all - just bolted. There were
traces of a sticky sealant around the mounting holes.
When I put it back on, I just bolted it up - no glue used, and it's fine (on
an 83 635, by the way)
Cheers
Dan

If you look on realoem at part 5, it is listed as 'primary adhesive'.

Alas, I have my new spoiler - but the adhesive tape is merely a roll of '3M VHB'

So, if anyone's ordering trim that needs sticking down, I would get some 3M VHB from somewhere other than BMW, as it would be about half the price! (probably less) Whats more annoying is that they would not tell me that this is what was going to be supplied, because if I knew that, I would have got the tape from somewhere else.

To reiterate... Part 4 in the diagram is 3m VHB tape (51711873226)

I can describe it as transparent, colourless tape that is about 1mm thick, and bloody sticky on each side. The inside part of the roll also says that it is pressure sensitive tape.

As a foot-note - I see Gordon is going to hit us all with a road tax hike next budget.
