A wee update...

Over the last week or so I managed to get the car lowered on Eibach's, alligned, a Larini exhaust put on and over the weekend manged to get the diffuser fitted.

It's worthing watching for the vapour if nothing else. Some new pics too:

The car actually sits lower, is just on a bit of a slant. First take on the Eibachs is good. First thing you notice is the whole look of the car changes. Even on a std M3 the rears sits nicely but the fronts just look a bit under-wheeled. The rear height has dropped a little but the fronts now nicely fill the arches without looking too agressive.

The ride at first took a bit of getting used to. I was ****e'n myself initially at the apparent lack of grip but after a couple of days everything seemed to settle down fine and the grip was back. The ride is noticably firmer but by no means uncomforable. The front end feels far more direct and breeds more confidence. Still undecided on the rear but I've got a good run coming up this weekend which will show any weakness.

Then for the cobble test. All teeth intact and no noticable rattles.

There is one thing I've I have noticed though is that the traction control seems a bit more lively, but not enough to trigger the warning light. We've got some of the worst roads in Edinburgh and the car seems to hesitate more over bumps. I suspect this is due to the fact that I've got standard shocks on but I have to say I'm viewing this as a positive thing. I like the balance of the ride at the moment and I don't want to make it too harsh so if anything, I'm now driving with more caution around town.

In summary, it seems to suit my requirements for the time being but for those looking for a competative suspension set up will need a lot more than just the springs!

The Larini doesn't seem too offensive and has a great rasp. This time, its right through the rev range. Don't think I'll need to get an X-Pipe now. Sound's good with the K&N Typhoon going bonkers upfront:



One thing that's pissing me off though, somethings attacking my front wheels. Perhaps someone can help. I think, but not sure, that the rim on both the front and back wheels is polished steel. But, there's a nasty chalky/limey thing spreading all around the rim. When you run your finger over it it looks like its rough, but feels totally smooth. So I'm thinking it must be under a lacquer, but I thought polished steel would have no lacquer. Any ideas?

 

Also, I fancy getting a decent detailing/clean up of the paintwork. Not needing any spraying just a decent going over with quality wax/clay etc. Anyone got any suggestions in the Edinburgh area?
