Topic: 635 exhaust Posted: 07-March-2006 at 17:18 |
am i right in thinking that the chassis for the e24 is the same as for the e28?
if so, would it be possible to fit the exhaust from a 635 to an m535i?
basically i need an exhaust for my e28 and have found one available from an e24
thanks for your help

The answer, I think, is that it depends. My 1988 E24 has the same exhaust as fitted to an E28 535i. The pre 1982 exhaust for the 635 won't fit as it wasn't based on the E28 chasis. Also, as I understand it, the M635 has a different exhaust to the 635, so if you want to put an E24 exhaust on an E28 M535, you need to ensure it's from and M635 car.
This information is all based on the conversation I had with a specialist when we were trying to source a replacement for my old exhaust. Hopefully someone else can confirm for you.

-ah not quite- the M535i has the M30 engine, the M635CSi has the full monty 24V one- the exhausts are completely different. A regular 635CSi exhaust (82-87) should fit the M535i (E28). The engines are identical. Later 635CSi 87-89 is different again, some E34ness creeping in at the engine end mainly....

do you think the exhaust would follow the same path under the car on the five as it does on the six?

I have bits of an exhaust fitting kit for the '85 to '87 generation if you want. I got them ages ago (in error) from Euro Car Parts....
