Along from Forest Hall? Think I saw that one too, blue leather?

No, "KIW 5921" always had black leather.....

Quote It didn't look too bad but I didn't have the balls either. Didn't know that much about 6-series then let alone if I could afford to run one!!!

When I viewed "KIW 5921" in 2000, I was already considering putting up my 1983 635CSi up for sale. The idea was that if "KIW 5921" was up to scratch, it would replace my bog standard car.

For £3250, which was what the seller wanted, it seemed fair. I was shown bills which suggested that "KIW 5921" already had two timing chain jobs during its life, which in theory meant that I would have 28,000 miles of travel before needing to fork out for another one.

I test drove the car in York, and it went absolutely fine. My unhappiness was over the amount of rust it had. New wings had been fitted, and there was evidence that anti-corrosion measures had been applied on these (though the current photo of the car I have seen shows the offside wing starting to go in the usual place). However, the rear valance was going, and the underside of the bonnet lid also showed pitting through rust, as did the top of the front plate (where the bonnet lid hinges bolt on to). The nose cone also had signs of rust, and there was evidence of the same in the sunroof drains area.

My old man, who made the trip up with me, remarked that the car must have spent a good deal of its life by the seaside.... something which the then seller made no comment on!

Here are the pics taken at that time:

I poured my money into doing up my 1983 635CSi instead. It had decidedly less rust

Quote Horsetan,

Rough though that Polo looks it doesn't seem to have any structural rust. No one is more surprised than me!

Which would you rather spend your £2000 on? This M635CSi? Or a brussels sprout?

I have a M635, have had it about 10 years. It is white and I bought it from a dealer near Brighton. I've had a lot of work done on it since, head, timing chain, timing sprockets, new front wings, radiator, speedo head, clutch, gearbox, new exhaust (BMW), rear bumper, grills etc etc. Can't bear to add up the cost! When I bought it had 93k on the clock, now about 147k. Have just had the front calipers overhauled. Hardly use it now, and have just bought an E36 convertible for my wife.
Thinking might part with the M635, it is MOT'd and taxed.
