Hi lads, I have my M Coupe two years now, thinking of changing to a CSL... I do 4-5 trips to the ring each year, 90% of my driving is on track, have KW's,3deg camber, H&R arbs, half cage, BBS LMS, etc.. Have any of you made the move?? Whats SMG like on track?? Would you miss manual??? Thanks |

Go for it the CSL would be loads better round any track

Wouldnt be sure about that, had a BMW Test driver in a CSL with contis ask me what tyres i was using after a dice aroung the ring' 8min 10 BTG.. |

No experience of either, but I would have expected that your car is already a match for a CSL.... Your talking about shelling out another, what £10K??, for something that is no faster.... |

A CSL will still be quicker on the track, especially with cups. Your M Coupe sounds pretty well sorted, but the CSL still handles better, is lighter and has more power and thats without mods. Go for the CSL, it was built for the track!! |

I know a chap who went from an AC Schnitzer MRoadster to a CSL and the
only thing he misses is the open roof. You don't even have that
problem.
 Just make sure you fit in it, though -- the seats are very uncompromising and if you do a long drive and get uncomfortable, there's nothing you can do about it -- make sure your test drive is at least a couple of hours. |

I know a guy who owns a 911 GT3 RS and a CSL - he brought the CSL to the last Porsche trackday I did at Castle Coombe - he seemed pretty impressed with the CSL and said he was in no way disappointed with the car or the SMG, even when comparing to the GT3RS. I've seen a few CSLs at trackdays, and all have had brake upgrades - may tell you something... |

hi as bmwcc e46 m3/csl register may be slightly bias but having seen the csl's being driven well at silverstone and not being caught by the gt3 then go for it.keep in touch if you take the plunge. also we went on recent champs run with club to epernay and did not find the ride un-comfy (and i do have a bit of 45 year old spread) yet the seats do hold you firmly in place.

TBH, I wouldn't have expected it to be that much quicker....
Remember that the M Coupe in discussion is NOT std. - Less difference.... Anyway, £10K+ better? |
