I've decided to replace the in-tank fuel pump but can't seem to track down a new one from anywhere - BMW want silly money, Motormec haven't returned my calls and I might be able to get one from Siemens but I'll have to go and collect -it's miles away. Anyone had any joy buying one recently?

Just bought one from bmw and it was not too bad. There are two units. A sender unit and the pump unit. I think£160 and £80. If you want an outragous price ask for a quote for a new ecu. Ask me how i know!!!!!!!

James, Thanks for that. You got the in-tank pump for £80 from BMW? Which dealer? My local one has quoted something like £140 plus VAT. Mine is still working but starting to whine - which is really irritating. I won't ask you about your ECU; it'll just lead to therapy. Simon |

The dealer i got it from was coopers banstead. I had two units one was about £80 the other was about £140. Not sure which was which, just that you had an ovel shaped unit that went inside a larger unit that had a thin pipe on it and what looked like a motor on the end. Fitting it took a while as you had to use a chissel to bang it around into it's place into the hole on the tank. The other unit then fitted down through the smaller hole and bolted in with three bolts/screws if i recall. Decided to change everything as we had a new tank going in. However the dealer sent the wrong inner unit and so in the end had to make use of the old one. However that unit is much easier to change then the one that had to be chissel/muscled into place on the tank. Sorry to be very vague, but just can't recall the exact price and the boxes they came in only had numbers on and no names so i did not know which was which. By changing it however it has cured low fuel, fuel surge which i used to get when under quarter of a tank and booted the car. The car would kangaroo and stutter a bit. Now it just pulls smoothly.

I'm told that the same in-tank fuel pump as many BMWs is fitted in innumerable VOLVOS, of which you will find many in the scrappies, dirt cheap.... cheers
