    Posted: 16-November-2005 at 07:49

Hello fellas

Can anyone recommend a good bodyshop in the East London/Essex area for my new scuttle weld and paint?  I was gonna use Silver Lady in Essex (my bro used em), but they are unreliable beyond belief.  I want to book it in pronto, so any help please.

Also looking for an electric fan.  C3 are doing them £175 delivered, which includes the ballast resistor.  Also finally, Im after a set of KV85 Magnecor leads.  Whos cheapest and best?

My cars a very late 1990 E30 M3.

Thanks

Going back before I had my scuttle repaired, I did a search and came up with this bodyshop, phoned them up, and they didn't have a clue what I was talking about, asked to speak to a few other people, and you could have sworn I was speaking a foreign language!!

No welsh jokes please...

Townley paint and Panel have done this repair many times, they are across the water at Dartford.
I can recommend their work as they have just done some work on mine, which included a full respray.
If I could figure out how to resize some pics,I could show you
Their phone number is 01322 291020 ask for Dave.

Jon download http://www.irfanview.com/

it's freeware. Open a picture, go to "IMAGE" and resize/resample.

Choose a size (640x480 is still big) and save with a NEW name. Otherwise you will overwrite the original picture

Cheers Jon.

Ive got a quote from my garage, I supply the scuttle, new windscreen, bonding, windscreen trim, and they do the work.  All in is just under £700.  They know me from doing my brothers, so I get a little discount.

Is this a good price?  And yes, they did a very good job on his.

Zain.

A point worth bearing in mind is that it is now real aggro to get a scuttle panel out of bmw and the new panel will come with a vin number that looks like it was stamped by Stevie Wonder !.  I have also heard of cases  recently where the police have wanted to inspect the car before a panel is supplied ! and a resulting 2 month holdup.

Unless your screen lip is rotten you are much better off having  localised repairs done.

Profit is more reasonable than justice.

Yep, the quality of the BMW new VIN number stamp is so poor, that if you went to look at a car for sale that had been fitted with a new panel, you'd thing it was a ringer for sure.It really is that bad.

I agree!  Ive got the brand new scuttle right here in front of me.  It looks like David Blunketts dog punched the vin number in.  I'll sort that bit out.  But what do you fellas think of the estimate?

£700 include the new windscreen? If so that's a pretty good price.

I had the coppers round one sunday night at half eight at night, to inspect mine turned up out the blue as well, nearly shat myself when they knocked on the door.

I cut out the old vin number off the old panel and kept it with the service history file on the car, yeah vin aint the best stamp, but BMW dont do it, its subcontracted out, and it would look a lot more suspect with no vin number at all in my opinion.

the guy who did all of the work for munich legends via pratt & co and crowborough accident and repair is starting his own company called SPR coachworks, He's bassed just outside crowborough which is about 1/2 hour from dartford. I can highly recomend his work. If anyone wants contact details for him please PM me

Ditto what Andy said, he did some work for me, excellent work and even gave me photos of what was done during the work. I can recommend.
