Thinking about it, perhaps putting a slim nut on first before fitted the brace, tighten the nut, fit the brace, then tighten the 'actual' nut onto the remains of the thread, by doing so you'd have packed out the space under the 'ring'.

You'll see what I mean when you fit yours, PS don't do it in the dark..........

Many thanks. That's really useful. Sounds relatively minor. And the brace looks excellent. Can't wait to get it and the results are as good as yours sound!

The only fettling required was opening out a couple of mouting holes with a small round file, which James did.

When we fitted mine (in the dark) we noticed that the strut mount screw-threads are not long & in tightening the 'rings' down mine have bent quite a bit.

I plan to remove the strut-brace, flatten the rings, then (this is the tip) put some packers in the recesses of the strut top, such that it won't bend under tightening - a few washers might do it, but you need to leave enough thread to be able to tighten up.

Hope that helps.

Just checking: as have now purchased from James - who seems a first rate bloke -- and will await delivery in next few weeks. How much fettling was involved to get a good fit? Apparently a little. But nothing major. . . any tips received with many thanks.

I'd echo that. . .Will check 5 series forum, but if you have contact details to hand excellent.

PS: I was just about to buy one from Germany at £70 plus £9.95 delivery - but company says it is for LHD car and cannot offer warrantee on RHD, and note some "adjustments" might be needed. So, feeling less inclined.

G.

***UPDATE***

This was fitted tonight! Cost? £50

Jimbo (off the 5 series UK forum) has done a cracking job with my strut-brace! Really neat, no clearance issues & having played a fair
bit on the way home on some great A roads I can confirm the front end feels more 'together'.
Braking also seems to have improved, not overall braking power obviously, but the car seems more stable under retardation.

I can thoroughly recommend his work to anybody else looking for a professional looking & performing brace!

Pics will follow, when I get a mo in the light!

Just as I left a yellow-jacketed security guard waved me down & asked that I didn't use the motorway service station car park as a race-track..........., he must have been watching my earlier antics sliding & bombing around.....
Laughing Wink Rolling Eyes

Strut pics before fitting below. I only had the front, will have a rear soon.
Both pictured. Made from high grade alloy, light by VERY strong.

I'd like to 'tighten' up the front of my E24 635csi.

The E28 is the same basic chassis, so a new or second-hand front strut-brace is needed.

Any suggestions of suppliers etc?

Got one in the shed you don't need???!!!

Cheers
