Fey

I believe the IAM are now operating in Ireland, let me check this out and get back to you.

As far as insurance in your country goes, they seem worse than here, think of a figure and trable it !

Best Wishes

Nigel

Nigel - I know; have spent the last 2 days looking for insurance for a friend.  He's just bought his first car (a 1998 5 door Rover 214si with 50k for €2,900), is 29 and is on his first provisional license.

He was on his ex g/f's policy on a Polo, and a guy t-boned him in an airport carpark with a Punto, pushing him sideways for about 100 yards into 3 parked cars.  There were no road markings, signs, etc., and it was private property.  Punto-boy had had 3 serious accidents in the previous 6 months (speed/lackof control/lack of ability/lack of judgment related), but my friends insurance company (Quinn-direct) settled without looking at evidence because they didn't want the hassle of legal bills (they, afaik, also covered Punto-boy, so they would have been shelling out anyway).  Even the Garda who arrived on the scene refused to say that it was my friends fault (although the Gardai aren't supposed to give a judgment, again afaik).

He was quoted €2,280 fully comp by one company, €3,600 third party only by another, and finally got one through a broker (Eoghan O'Sullivan in Galway - good reputation), tpf&t, for €1,460.

BTW; in my previous post, I meant to give one other story - my last meeting with a Gatso.  I was coming off a 100km dual carraigeway behind a jeep, into a 60km strech of DC, when, 10 metres beyond the 60 sign, the guy in the jeep stood on his brakes dropping down to about 20kmph.  Luckily I had a bit of distance left between us, but I still had to swerve around him.  Reason: he had spotted a Gatso van up ahead, parked in a carpark at the side of the road amid various cars and vans, and reacted even though he had already slowed to the limit.  This was at 7am on a Sunday morning!

Gatsos can be the CAUSE of accidents.

Thanks for the link, Nigel.  Could be worth the 3 hour drive!

Group lessons, anyone?

I think its fairly new over there Fey.

The more of you that qualify, and go on to be observers, the less the distance between candidate and instructor ( observer) will be.

Just because thats where you have to ring, it doesn't mean there isn't anyone closer to you.

Best Wishes

Nigel
