This also shows the Govts regard to the environemtn in the manner that a private 1.9L family car is taxed @ 30% whereas a lorry (which does far more mileage) gets away paying a paltry 50 quid!

...and IIRC Charlie is planning to increase VRT!

So the valued it less at €9500. That's probably less than what it is really worth at least.

The revenue boyo's must have revised (upwards) the VRT as it seems a little higher than when I looked at it last. Surprise, surprise.

Brendan, you have to remember that the VRT rate though on imports (which was decided in consultation with the SIMI) is based upon the estimated value that car would be if on sale in Ireland.
If the car was on sale in Ireland the price would be artifically inflated due to the VRT placed on it when originally sold. Therefore VRT on imports is actually calculated on the value of a car which has already paid VRT.
In a sensible world it would be based on the value of a car less the VRT portion of the cars value. But that will never happen!

Yes, but then they would probably charge 50-60%. You can't win with them.
