i have a 3.0l m3 95 e36 and when i accelerate hard in lower gears there is a slight vibration felt through my steering wheel with a horrible scratching sound. at first i thought low steering fluid but this was fine, looked a bit dark in colour but level was good. a friend said it could be a loose/damaged exhaust mount, i knew the gear box mount was damaged i changed this with no succsess, the garage who serviced it said it was a worn ball joint but showed no real interest this was changed (it needed doing anyway) again no luck. i am really confussed and am considering taking it to the stealers to have a look but would prefere to get it fixed before they rob me blind. has any one heard of this before or any other suggestions |

Just check that the engine isn't laying over under power and leaning on the steering column universal joint. This used to happen on my csl (E9), to the point where it would lock the steering completely until you eased off (!**!). Cured that by new engine mounts, as the old ones had sagged and were allowing just a little too much rocking of the engine. I know the E36 is a way different car, but it might be worth checking it. Good luck. |
