If your car was registered pre 1991 then you dont. It says so on their leaflet.  I got one last week (leaflet) after I had departed with nearly 3k yoyos for vrt on my 88 m3

was there a photo with the letter?
There was a time a few years back (after NCT came out) that ministers cars had black plates (illegal) and IIRC it took a while for them to change

I just got a letter in the post telling me to change my number plate in 10 days or face a €1300 fine from customs and excise. They are telling me that it is illegal because it is not a EU plate but it is. The only thing is that the numbers are in a different font. Are these people not supose to be trying to catch drugs, people, etc that are comming into the country illegal ? not me with my slightly different number plates!!!!
